Beta 3 for sx230hs Firmware version 1.0.1a - Follow ups.

You can add the BOOTDISK flag with HxD hex editor http://mh-nexus.de/en/hxd/. Go to Extras->Open disk->Select SD card and uncheck readonly. Type BOOTDISK at 0x1E0 like in the attached picture, The SCRIPT tag is optional, you can skip that.

Thanks, tried that ensuring that my editing matched that image exactly, with same experience as multiple partitions (no boot).  Tested with both Beta 3 and Beta 2. At this point, suspect something wrong with DISKBOOT.BIN; has this been tried by anyone else?

-camera freezes/turns off if you take picture above ISO400, so its good to keep preselected ISO upto 400 instead of keeping it on AUTO ISO.

Thank you, that helped.  I haven't seen an outright crash since I set a static ISO value.

-for bracketing: use one bracketing option (either Tv or Av or ISO) than, put on custom timer and select time and number of shots, you can select any number of shots, and press the shutter just once. no need to keep it pressed. note that it will work without selecting contineous shooting.

Oh, yes, that's way nicer (using the custom timer instead of the continuous shooting). This didn't work in beta 2 but does in beta 3.

Could be a firmware issue but have you tried to do as you described above and then choose a custom timer with 3 shots instead of full continuous mode before shooting?

Heh.  This is interesting.  Yes, I've now gone back and tested the same operation with both the Beta 2 and the Beta 3 buildes.  The Beta 2 build (in continuous mode rather than custom) show correct under and over exposure, but do not reflect the changes in the EXIF metadata at all.  The beta 3 build shows the correct data in the EXIF metadata, but the images do not show any changes at all.

I've put versions of the two test sets online here:

Hi, can anyone post some sample dng from the HS230? Preferably outdoor shots with lots of green and blue. I would like start creating a color profile.

Hi jiamflash,

I got some simple shots with green and to lesser extend blue :) I'll send you a share link per mail. Let me know if you need other shots.

Some odd behaviour on GM1.00c firmware with RAW:
The save RAW option gets disabled every time I exit alt mode by pressing disp and then set. This is very annoying and probably to be considered a bug. If I press set followed by disp the setting is not cleared. This behaviour seems consistent and reproducible.

Isn't DISP key the shortcut for RAW toggle? Maybe you should try reassigning the ALT mode shortcut.

I tried the 1.00c beta3 for stills (no video yet as I don't use it that much) and I can't find any significant flaws, I think it is release quality :) Thanks for the good work genie!
I also made my 16gb card bootable with the method described above and it works great with this build.

Hi, I do not have the 1.01a firmware camera, but for 1.00c it works well from a 16gb card. Make sure you physically slide the write protect tab on the card to the Lock position before inserting into the camera, otherwise the autoboot won't work.

Well that explains a lot :)

We were testing CHDK 0.9.9-1200, 18 Jun 2011, FW 100c, genie's Beta3.
Most functions seem to work. CHDK user interface response is a bit slow compared to other cameras, but no big deal here.

However PTP download does not seem to work at all while CHDK is running. When connecting the USB cable to the computer nothing happens neither in the computer nor the camera.

--SOLVED-- I forgot to disable remote control. PTP works ok now. The only problem with PTP is that apparently I cannot see RAW or DNG files from the computer. I can only see .jpg .mov and strangely enough, .FI2

Beta 4 for sx230hs Firmware version 1.0.1a

I think I have solved the bug where it crashed on taking photos at certain times. Let me know if it occurs again

biskboot.bin - http://www.box.net/shared/gyb7jj68abmsvldiihf7
ps.fi2 - http://www.box.net/shared/yz0ij8jnlvink6d4ex95

As always use at your own risk

Let me know of any problems.
