Video Without Timelimit seems to work now (using version 2020), with the OSD turned off. This is great. Thanks to whoever solved this. (With the OSD on, video still crashes and files are not saved.)
Has anyone tried with the OSD enabled, but the "show remaining video time" option in the video menu turned off ?
Don't forget what the H stands for.

OK, I've tried that twice. The first time the camera crashed after about a minute, without saving a file. The second time, I also turned off Video Quality Control, which was on the first time, and the camera crashed after almost three minutes, without saving a file. The second time, every option on the video menu was turned off, except Quality and the quality number.

When taking videos at lower quality numbers, the battery doesn't last all that much longer than at higher settings, even though the bitrate is much slower. When I tried setting the video to 320x240 and quality 1, the battery didn't last too much longer than at 1920x1080 and quality 30 or 40. Is this mainly because of the LCD power consumption, or because of the wattage of the processor, sensor and related circuitry? If it's the LCD, it'd help to have a menu option to turn off the LCD as soon as a video starts, and turn it back on when the video ends. Maybe the green LCD could flash once a second to indicate that it's recording, or something like that.

 Hi,

I want to share with you a Dual Illuminant profile I created with passport pro for the

Canon SX230 HS. The LR 4.0 processing is much better than the Canon especially with regards to the detail at high ISO.

This is the link.

https://sites.google.com/site/bypaparo/storage/Canon%20PowerShot%20SX230%20HS%20DILM.dcp?attredirects=0&d=1

You can apply it to the .DNG file that you get for the CHDK software.

You need to copy this file "Canon PoweShot SX230 HS DILM.dcp"  in
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles\

This is much better the the default one, especially in low light, where the embedded one has some strange casting.

Hope you enjoy it.

You can also find here a lens profile.

https://sites.google.com/site/bypaparo/storage/Sx230%20HS%20lens%20profile.lcp?attredirects=0&d=1

The lens profile, was downloaded by on this forum. SX230 HS Lens Profile.lcp

C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfile\

I think you can get nearly a 24mm equivalent out of the camera with this profile. It is for sure sensibly wider than 28mm

To install them you just need to copy the two files in the appropriate directory in LR.

I believe that these two files with LR 4.0 will make this camera very competent in terms of image quality, may be on par with the like of Canon S100, S90, LX5, and so on.

It would be great if any of you can post any comparison with these cameras

Hope you enjoy it, and please let me know what you think.

Hi arguros,

I have several questions to the Dual Illuminant profile. I got some information about what it is here: http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Calibrating_colors_for_DNG_processing

OK, you wrote, that it has to be copied to appdata folder. Nevertheless, how can I double check that this profile is used? Furthermore I have a user defined coloring and saturation scheme as standard profile for my Sx230 to get to natural colors. When I have installed your profile, do I have to change my settings again?

Hi,
Once you have copied the two files in the correct folders you can check them in LR in this way

1) Go to Develop Module / Camera Calibration / Profile : You will see Canon Powershot SX230HS DILM
2) for the lens profile you just go to Lens Correction.

This profile is meant to produce as much as possible natural colours. it does so by interpolating the two profile it has stored in memory: one for day light, the other for tungsten lighting.
These two profiles are then interpolated according to the white balance settings.
So if you don't like to colours of the DNG file, the very first thing you should do is to change the white balance, to change the way the two profiles are interpolated.
On top of this, once you have got the "natural look" you can apply your settings.

Lightroom corrections are on top of the Camera Calibration Settings.
You will have a different colour rendition as opposed to the profile integrated in the .DNG file.
I created this profile taking two shots 1) The first with the flash to simulate daylight, the 2) with a tungsten gel.
You will see a much better colour rendition especially in low light.

Hope you enjoy it.

I added the profiles here

Thank for the link

Ok, thanks for your explanation. I will play around with it. Nevertheless, what I have obviously seen is that all blue colors are more saturated by your camera profile. I do not know yet if it is my favorite setting.

Do you have a further user setting profile which you will typically apply to your photos first?

Hi, I was wondering if there is any way to get the raw files to appear in in the file list via USB

currently I have to remove the SD card when ever I want to get access to the raw files.

There may be some combination of prefix + extension that allows this. I'd start iwth something like CRW_nnnn.CR2

If you are shooting DNG format, you may want to rename them to .DNG after downloading.

You will most likely have to reboot the camera between taking pictures and plugging it into USB for files to appear.

You can also download any file using the chdk PTP extension http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/PTP_Extension but this requires installing a libusb driver (which may prevent regular software from seeing the camera at all) and using a CHDK specific program like chdkptp or ptpcamgui to download.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

Did you try changing the RAW File Extension in the RAW menu ?
