just tried a few and it still does not show up in the USB. But then again, unlike other CHDK versions for cameras such as the powershot a560, it doesn't have the raw visible in USB option located in the debug menu (which is what I had to enable on my a560 to get dng's to show up.

Currently getting used to the camera and trying to search for a exposure bracketing script that will do all 13 steps from -2 to +2

I believe that option was only available for older cameras that used the VxWorks operating system.  Your new camera uses DryOS.

That option is "DNG visible via USB" and is only applicable if you choose the "'DNG' File extension" option.

As waterwingz says, this is only available on old cameras. If you had "'DNG' File extension" selected, then you definitely won't see the files over USB on newer cameras. If you turn it off and use one of the prefix/extensions combinations that is "known" to the camera, then it should probably show up, assuming you reboot between taking the picture and plugging the camera in.

I have the same problem with a SX 150 (see http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=6953.msg91549#msg91549 )

I have just tried to choose wav as file extension and i get SND_0007.wav (even if iirc i choosed img as prefix) for example, and i am able to download them with the usb cable (better especially for the battery/card door life).

Also didn't know about chdkptp, seems really interesting!

Thank you.

Hello,

This hack is great, but or I am missing something or I couldn't find some video options in my Canon SX230HS, is it possible?

Manual exposure for video;
Define a different shutter speed like 1/48 or 1/60 for 24p videos.
Zebra for videos to detect blow up areas?
Audio indicator for video and
Cinestyle technicolor would be really usefull to post process the image later.

Cheers, and thanks for the fantastic work!

You are not missing anything - nobody has implemented those options with CHDK.  For the most part, the CHDK developers have been more interested in regular photography than video.

The developers should give an attention to this items, I believe that most of the great work that magic lantern have done for videos could be implemented in chdk as well and turn this hack even more fantastic for both video and photography.

Thanks for answering,

Cheers mate

What "the developers" work on is entirely up to each individual, and we all have different interests and motivations. There is no CHDK organization that decides what should be implemented. If someone comes along and implements video controls in a way that can reasonably added to CHDK, I'd certainly be happy to include it.

nice! Unfortunately I am a crappy programmer. Maybe someone from Magic Lantern have interest as well in tiny sensors to improve chdk characteristics someday. But besides of it, I am really impressed with the work done here.
thanks for the answer.

Is anyone having an issue with chdk and the hand held night shot mode?

When I use it with chdk, the images come out completely distorted, but with CHDK not in use, it works just fine.

Also is there an option to adjust the video bitrate. the current method of control is quality control and it only seems to reduce video quality. If you increase it too high, then the video randomly stops recording. If you lower it enough to not fail then the bit rate does not increase properly when there is a lot of motion. With other versions of CHDK for other camera models, you could simply adjust the bitrate by power, eg 1.5X bitrate would basically tell the device to just use 50% higher bit rate compared to what it would otherwise use which allowed the bitrate to scale in a much more manageable manner
