Noticed a weird issue, on rare occasions while recording standard 1080p video, the camera will randomly and instantly turn off (the lens will not retract, it will act like the power was instantly lost. (seems to only happen when CHDK is in use)

Known problem with a possible workaround, see the posts from here: http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=6397.msg84032#msg84032

thanks for the info :)

too hooked on chdk to not use it (mainly wont purchase a camera that does not support it since it adds more functionality than what is present in any other consumer level camera on the market.

I wonder why canon doesn't use CHDK support as a selling point...

SX230 freezing on video recording
« Reply #593 on: 10 / January / 2013, 21:14:48 »
Was there ever a definitive fix for the video freezing bug? Where the camera just dies with the lens extended?
I've read through some of the information and tried turning off the OSD but it hasn't worked.

I have a 101b and I'm using chdk 1.1

The only recent problem I've had (using firmware 1.01c) with OSD turned off was an Error E16 that happened yesterday at our local Lego Robotics match. The lens froze, the screen displayed the lens error message, and I had to take out the battery to restart the camera. You could compare the other settings with someone also using 1.01b with no scripts running.

PowerShot SX230 HS - DNG and lensfun?
« Reply #595 on: 18 / January / 2013, 09:30:28 »
Well, there are lots of stuff for Adobe's prods which are pretty useless for those who live in Linux, but...

Are there any profile of SX230 for lensfun (used by UFRaw etc) to fix distortion?

Here was some motion, but I couldn't find any usable results :(

yepp, it's a crosspost as I cannot realize which thread is (1) a proper one and (2) alive...

I had to make my own lens profile (if anyone wants, I can put a download up for it) at the fully wide (zoomed out setting) it corrects the distortion the same as the camera does (I corrected using images of graph paper)

My adobe camera raw profile also offers a slightly wider view than what is in the jpeg's the camera spits out.

I am currently about to update to sx230hs-101b-1.1.0-2545-full_BETA.zip (hopefully if fixes the video bug)

there is also a 1.2 version buy I cant find much info on those builds
and no info on what is changed on new builds since the link in changelog file

Unfortunately,  AFAIK there is currently no central point where changes from the 1.1.0 to 1.2.0 trunk are described.

Informally,  I believe most of the current changes to date are related to the UI. Menus have been restructured to make more sense,  new methods of inputting numeric values implements, and the "shortcut" keys have been cleaned up.

I'm sure there are a few other changes (like the motion detector now allows you to display change levels in each grid box in real time, and the shoot() script command has been improved).  But that should probably go into its own thread - or maybe wiki page?

I'd like to see it.

for me it is not a full lens profile as I have not gotten them to work (could not find a tool that would allow me to make something that will create an entry in the lens profile list, so this is more of a preset with the goal of getting the correction as close to the cameras default jpeg output as possible

http://www.mediafire.com/?oz7y0ibptb6q3tr
(this is designed for adobe camera raw)

not sure how it will look on other cameras of the same model, but for me, if you do a side by side comparison of the jpeg output and the correction this preset gives, things should look pretty similar, or at least provide a starting point.

ultimately I would like to make a true lens profile that will show up in the lens profile list. (other users have uploaded some in the past for other cameras but I could never get them installed even after following the instructions exactly)

for the preset location, simply place the file in C:\Users\user-name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\Settings

(currently testing one lens profile creator, will see if I can get decent results with it that work with adobe camera raw)

edit: it seems the adobe lens profile creator is working okay, I will try and heat out to a print shop and see how much it will cost to print the 22x34 calibration chart (should be worth it since II am assuming it can be used on a wide range of cameras)
