Is that a limitation of the software? I'd much prefer not to have to keep my finger on the trigger; getting older and shakier every day :)

Well you could call it that :) But you can ofcourse take/make a simple bracketing script. Just activate the script with one press and done.

Beta 3 for sx230hs Firmware version 1.0.1a

Not sure how useful this report is...

I'm not finding this version very stable.  It may be because of the ISO issue reported earlier, but I'm getting lots of crashes / freezes.  I'll try to spend some time narrowing down the cause tomorrow night, but wasn't able to find a consistent pattern.

For bracketing, even though the metadata shows a +/- pattern in the relevant parameter, the image exposure for the first image is fine and then subsequent images get blown out.  Maybe I'm doing it wrong?  Basically I set Tv, Ev or ISO bracketing, go into P mode, switch to continuous mode, and hold down the trigger.

Someone mentioned a german script that was good for HDR; where would I find that?

(edit) Forgot to mention...  I tried partitioning my 8GB card into 2 partions (documented here http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Bootable_SD_card ), setting the small 2MB partition bootable, and copying the boot image to it, but with no luck.  The image wasn't loaded, and the second larger partition was not switched to.

Thanks!

For recent cameras philmoz found out that we can boot FAT32 SD cards without partitioning. Look at this thread http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=6645.0 .

You can add the BOOTDISK flag with HxD hex editor http://mh-nexus.de/en/hxd/. Go to Extras->Open disk->Select SD card and uncheck readonly. Type BOOTDISK at 0x1E0 like in the attached picture, The SCRIPT tag is optional, you can skip that.

For sx220, which is basically the same camera, the Av override goes up to f11 but actually the maximum is f8. Everyhing from f8 to f11 is just the ND filter In.

I have compared f8 and f11 pics, taking a macro subject, the depth of field is slightly different in both the images.

You could be right. I came to this conclusion by overriding to f11 and putting ND filter out, the EV was the same as f8. But now I see that even if I select f4.5 and put ND filter out it comes out as f3.1. Looks like selecting ND filter out is equal to +1EV.

Could be a firmware issue but have you tried to do as you described above and then choose a custom timer with 3 shots instead of full continuous mode before shooting?

-camera freezes/turns off if you take picture above ISO400, so its good to keep preselected ISO upto 400 instead of keeping it on AUTO ISO.

-for bracketing: use one bracketing option (either Tv or Av or ISO) than, put on custom timer and select time and number of shots, you can select any number of shots, and press the shutter just once. no need to keep it pressed. note that it will work without selecting contineous shooting.

i have autobraketing script in german (based on shutter speed), will upload it soon.

I find custom timer brackting more handy.

@ taliesin:

did you compare pre alpha version posted on July 2nd 2011.

in that version:

-there was no issue with ISO speed.
-No video capturing problem where camera freezes\turns off after a few seconds.
-I have also noticed that in pre-alpha version i was able to take images with f16 as well (images compared based on EV value)

Hello,

I've make some tests with scripts. Here are the first short results.

MD_FAST: Works fine for the first picture but then I must press to times the <DISP.>+<Func.> key to make the next picture

MD-Six: After starting the scritp nothing happens

br_h_new.lua: after the first picture the camera switch off

All this scripts can be downloaded by www.chdk-treff.de and I use the default settings.

The used chdk is SX230HS GM1.00c Beta 3

You must first customize the scripts to the camera.

Have even adapted two scripts; function very well. (one for time-lapse and one for lightning)

If you want them, tell me.
