    Sure, here are the numbers of errors reported along with the ms speed used;
    200 - 0 errors
    150 - 0 errors
    100 - 0 errors
    50 - 0 errors
    25 - 0 errors
    15 - 0 errors
    10 - 0 errors
    5 - 0 errors
    1 - 0 errors
    1 - 0 errors
    0 - 7 errors
    0 - 5 errors

I ran the 1ms and the 0ms delayed tests twice each as listed above. All tests run using the setmode you posted above. Any other tests I can run for you?

Is there any known or possible kind of test that could catch the movie mode crashing? Build 1659 still reliably crashes on every video setting (with firmware 1.01c).

I assume you have a 101e firmware buffnut? I have done a few short clips, nothing serious, and have yet to see a crash in video mode. My issue is with the scripts as stated above.

I did just notice however that I am using the 1645 version. I'll try updating to the 1659 and see what happens.

    Update;
Installed the 1659 and all movie modes work, with at least 3 seconds each recorded. However now the hdr script that gave me all black pictures now turns off with a camera error. Going to run all the tests and see what happens. Didn't realize I was using an old version before.

Did the same testing I did before and same results. I also ran all the tests in the test folder and everything passed except uartrtst.log failed with a :7: error: requires CHDK build with native function call support. Not sure if that is important or not.

Native function calls (see http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Lua/Lua_Reference/Native_Function_Calls  ) are not enabled in the autobuilds.

Have you ever changed/enabled the video compression override settings ?

What exactly happens when it crashes: Does anything appear on the display first, does it shut down or just freeze ? How long does it run for before it crashes ?

Do you have "af scan in video" enabled ?

A romlog http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Debugging#Camera_crash_logs_.28romlog.29 might shed some light on the situation.

I tried sx230hs-101a-1.0.0-1659-full_BETA and things work well.

I tried 1572 and 1672 compiled version and no raw/dng after leaving Alt mode. ??? Returning in Alt mode, raw is disabled ! Re-enabling it, script is capturing raw/dng. Sometimes, the raw flag doesn't reset, dépending of zoom factor ????

    Now, it seams intermittent :(

Forget that ! It seams that raw toggle key is "Display" in <Alt> mode :( :( :( same as "Display+Set" to de-Alt mode :(

I had also that problem, but if you press Set and then Display it works without disabling raw.
Otherwise you can use another button to toggle Alt-mode (I use [>] key and it works well).

With my SX230 HS, I am trying to manually focus during video capture. I unsuccessfully tried CHDK and now CHDK-DE since I saw the following video
Canon SX230HS with CHDK | manual focus in video mode demo

    I followed the following instructions

    Manual focus on video recording

The video recording is at a photo-camera is a nice addition. Canon has this feature not given much importance. Only recently cameras have come on the market that can record videos in high definition.

With CHDK, the video-recording function can be enhanced significantly. The most-CHDK supported cameras can now use the optical zoom while recording. Influence of auto focus and video quality are also possible.

As it would be, even with manual focus to film?

Does the camera to manual focus ( MF ) as a mode to which the following workflow is easy to implement:

    Choose a video recording mode.
    Enable manual focus.
    If necessary, select the focus.
    Video-recording start.
    Switch to <ALT> mode.
    With
    /
, the step size for changing the focus to select. This can also be set before recording.
    Change with [Zoom] focus.
Evt. the keys can vary depending on camera model. On manual focus and keyboard controls are in CHDK manual on page 71 read more.

If you have activated the status indicator will increment and subject distance also displayed.

Way to achieve beautiful effects, video recording, you will probably also look at real video cameras.

but it doesn't seam to work.

    Did I miss something ?
Is CHDK able to do manual focus during video capture ?

Note: I bought SX230hs to do so :)

MF in video works fine for me (SX220).  :)

    Try the following steps:
    - Choose P mode
    - Switch into ALT mode and start CHDK menu.
    - Select 'Extra Photo Operations', go to 'Override Subj. Dist. Value' and 'Value Factor (mm)'.
    - Choose a step width in 'Value Factor (mm)', e.g. 10.
    - Set a min. subject distance in 'Override Subj. Dist. Value'.
    - Leave the menu & ALT mode.
    - Choose MF and set subject distance with jogdial to a minimal value.
    - Switch into ALT mode. Now you see the status display with subject distance and step width.
    - Use the zoom lever. When you can change the subject distance, you have won.

Leave the ALT mode. Start video recording with MF mode. Switch into ALT mode and use the zoom lever for subject distance.

For people with accidental RAW disabling: I find it much easier to use Play as my ALT button. Far easier to activate and Play still works if you hold it for a second. Plus I never accidentally disable RAW :)

Yes. Even setting a low quality value in 320x240 15fps mode has no effect on the crashing behavior.

The camera turns off without retracting the lens. As far as I can see, nothing appears on the display before it turns off.  It does not save a video file. This can happen at any time, from a few seonds after pushing the video button up to 10 minutes or more into a video recording. It doesn't happen with non-CHDK video, even in 30 Mbps 1080p mode or 40Mbps iFrame 720p mode.

Unsure. It's using whatever the default is, because I can't find that setting anywhere on the menus (in the autobuild version).

I might have found something related to the bug. When I set Video Quality Control OFF a couple of hours ago, the video didn't crash - for the first time ever. It's now completed two one hour videos without problems. When I get home, I'll set Video Quality Control back ON and I would expect the crashing to resume at that time. If so, I'll upload a romlog for you.

I was referring to the CHDK override, not any Canon firmware setting.

It would be in the same menu as the video quality setting, labeled "AF Key". It might be disabled in your build. If it's blank, then no key is assigned.

What is the 'Video Mode" setting in that menu ? Default should disable the quality override feature completely. Checking the quality control checkbox should just allow you to change the quality while recording.
