Not sure if it is possible to implement, but I want to request a feature :( I have a broken cogwheel in my lens unit so the camera cannot move lens with motor, reports E18 error and shuts down. I can easily move lens by rotating the ring manually, but camera still think that lens are closed and reports E18. It would be great to fool the camera there are no problem. It could give camera a second life (well, half-life :-)). For those with sand inside and lens stucked, it will also allow just to take fotos with a fixed zoom :D

Common request, especially among people with telescopes. Not possible using CHDK with our current knowledge, but you may want to search for hardware hacking tips if you're handy that way.

Hi !
Is there any new development about overriding E18 with CHDK.
I trying to modify ixus40 as astrophoto camera....so far remove lens, filter, add adapter for telescope,
im stuck with E18...tried some hardware sensor hacks (from net) but so far no luck..
It would be great if operations of all mechanical parts can just be ignored, is it possible ?
Thanks !

I have a a495.  I've removed the optics. I start with chdk the camera in play mode without problems. If I go to capture mode with the menus the camera detects that there is no optics and fails. I wonder if it is possible in a lua script to go to capture mode not checking the status of the camera. later I adjust via lua the parameters and start the intervalometer script.

No. As I explained in my reply to to your other post http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=6443.0 there is (almost certainly) no simple "checking the status of the camera".

You might be able to do something with eventprocs: http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Event_Procedure some of the low level or diagnostic ones might still work.

If you can leave the optics electrically connected, but move them out of the actual optical path, some people have reported success with that in the past.
Don't forget what the H stands for.
