"Yesterday vs. Today" photos

I wonder if it is possible to use some features of CHDK to help making photos like this:

The idea is to help finding the proper view of actual place based on old picture. I think about loading old picture on the memory card, then load it to CHDK and show it on the screen, but a bit transparent, so that one can find the right viewpoint and make photo covering the same view (buildings, streets etc according to the old "base" photo).

Maybe built in panorama asistant features can be used combined with CHDK?
Any ideas how to make such photos?

You may be able to use the edge overlay feature for the.

- Convert your "old" image to a format the camera can support (same size etc. Easy way is to paste it into an image actually taken with the camera. Note that you're camera will have to be able to use a similar focal length to the original. cropping of the "old" image may confuse things)

- put the image on your card, and start in play mode. In the edge overlay menu, enable edge overlay and edge overlay in play.

- display your image in the camera playback (full screen) and halfpress the shutter. This will mark make the edge overlay.

- go back to the edge overly menu, and save.

- at the location, load your edge overlay and match it up with what you see in the live view.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

Hej,
That must not help much more than holding the old pic while framing the new pic beside it ?
And depending on the new street/whatever design, you may not be able to stand at the same place to get the same perspective, and the old focal lengh is hard to find also.
Anyway if you try reyalp method, morel, show us the results, and share your thoughts about it.

it is funny, the overlay feature was coded for the exact thing the threadstarter asks for :D
(well, not entirely, i guess it was for stereo and such).

Not much, although in the right circumstances (you have a couple of good reference lines and the optical setup is equivalent) you might be able to get a better match.
