A570IS External Battery Pack?

Would like to build a remote battery pack for a wildlife triggered camera system using a Canon A570IS.
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canona570is/

Searched the forum but found no postings.

Have a 4 AA battery pack available but am hesitant to use it for fear of the higher Voltage damaging the camera since it only uses 2 AA batteries.

Is anyone using a 4 cell NiMH battery pack with any of the 2 AA DIGIC III Canon cameras?

Any recommendations concerning the maximum Voltage for these 2 AA cameras?

Thanks,

Ken

I wouldn't use more than 2*AA or 3.2 V without actually knowing the hardware well enough. I've used a 12 V battery with a 12 V to 3 V switching converter (incidentally, it's the car adapter of my NiMH charger).

Depending on how your battery pack is constructed,  you might be able to convert it so that it connects in parrallel two sets of batteries connected in series.  That will give you a nominal 3V but twice the current capability (i.e. on time) of just using two internal cells.  If my description is confusing, it might be safer to ignore what I'm suggesting.

Ported :   A1200    SD940   G10    Powershot N    G16

Hi fudgey,

"I wouldn't use more than 2*AA or 3.2 V without actually knowing the hardware well enough."  Agree  Guess no one has tried higher Volts.

Hi waterwingz,

"Depending on how your battery pack is constructed,  you might be able to convert it so that it connects in parrallel two sets of batteries connected in series...."  Thanks, have you ever done this?

Ken
