The confusion: camera doesn't take pictures in a burst when Drive Mode is set to Custom or Self Timer. It takes pictures in a burst when Drive Mode is set to Continuous Shooting.

And the difference in the result is?

in my cameras (a620 & s3is) speed is about the same, be it in continous mode or custom timer. the custom timer in the end DOES use burst mode, as it only focuses once (when you start the process). disable review time and there you go. and by the way, in bracketing you not only want to avoid lag, but also movement. this means, the custom timer is way better than the normal burst mode, as you dont have to touch the cam or the shutter.

no, AF beam is only used ONCE, like i already said it only focuses in the beginning (thats the reason a lot of people usually HATE the custom timer, as it doesnt take into account that scenes sometimes do change).
i stay at my opinion: speed is about the same.
well, you provided a script, but the whole thread is about the possibility to use custom timer (and subsequently you do not need any scripts) INSTEAD of continous mode and scripts :)

A610 does blink the AF-assist Beam between EVERY shot (even when disabled in menu) in Custom mode even when using MF, so Continuous Shooting+script is needed. If A620 and S3 do not blink then indeed the speed of Custom mode may be about the same as Continuous Shooting.

hm, just noticed af beam does blink on a620. but i'm pretty sure it doesnt autofocus, it only blinks to tell people it is about to shoot (for selfportraits and groupshots).
anyways, in the end it is about speed & scripts versus simplicity.

I don't find using that script more complicated or longer to execute than setting Custom Drive Mode.

Say all -- what's the bottom line consensus on this -- has anyone confirmed whether custom drive mode really is slower than continuous mode?
