There is a thread for a490 firmware f (http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=5051.0)

I found the firmware dumping post for the a490e here (http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?action=post;quote=69168;topic=288.300;num_replies=304;sesc=fe60cd5e30e5abb336a58aa9c2858a25)

And once I have posted this and got a link I will post it in the above thread.

It might just be me but I have been unable to use the vers.req (or vers.req) method of finding the firmware version. 
Brand new SDHC card 4Gb - formatted using GParted as fat16, write lock on and off, all button combo's tried.

ACID worked.

Look forward to progress and am more than willing to help with testing.
