Can the sx30 be remote zoomed?

I'm wanting to be able to remote zoom, and before hell freezes over remote focus....

I'm thinking an hardware solution is going to be the only way, and I really miss the ;anc socket on my sony camcorder, as I had a pistol grip which had buttons for zoom/focus/shoot

I want to make such a grip for my new camera, I can only see 3 ways, usb cable with some form of serial protocol, addng a some sort of extra socket and bringing the button connections to the outside world, bringing the button connections to a PIC chip to give a serial connection/usb connection..

Thoughts...

Oh and is there any pictures of how to strip the outer shell?

Also would like a remote mic socket....

A USB remote trigger is already built into CHDK. Have a read of the CHDK Wiki; there are plenty of scripts you can choose from.

but that only allows 'shoot' .....

now if the USB port could be made to accept commands like focus+-/zoom+-/shoot....

You can make a script for remote control. Check the time of pressing the remote.

press remote 1 second -> zoom in
press remote 3 seconds -> zoom out

The Silicon Chip article was derived from the PICAXE projects. Ask on the forum for the Rudolph remote. It is my understanding that the Rudolph remote project has been implemented for other projects especially robotics. The source code is available.

Oh usefull, need to look into this, but its a bit slow for realtime controls, wil have a play with it and get back with results.
