Questions About The ELPH 100 HS

I'm pretty new to CHDK and this forum but I've been searching for any info about the Powershot ELPH 100 HS with no luck.

Is the ELPH 100HS called something else or am I missing something here? Is there just no development for it, from what I can see its not even listed in the For Developers section.

I was thinking of getting an SD780 off eBay, but the 100HS is on sale at Best Buy right now and would be brand new along with 1080p. I just cant find anything about any CHDK development for the 100HS.

Any thoughts about the 100HS or if anyone can recommend other 10+MP, $80-$150 Powershots?

Just in case Here is a link to the 100HS:

The ELPH100HS is also know as IXUS115 in the rest of the world.

Regardless,  it does not look like anyone has started a port for this camera.  Standard disclaimer here :
CHDK FAQ : My camera isn't ported yet.

Which means you could buy the ELPH100HS and wait a really long time for CHDK (or forever) unless you have the time and skills to port it yourself.   As far as other cameras go :

The SD780 and its twin brother the SD940 are both nice cameras.  The SD940 has been ported to all know firmware version but the SD780 is only available for one firmware version so far.

You can still get the A495 for well under $100 and all reported versions are supported (although not well tested).

I would love to do the work to port the camera, but is there a for sure way to know that it can be done?

Is is that the camera can be ported for CHDK just no one has yet? Or is it more like we have no idea how to port this thing? If the answer is the first one, I'll go buy it right now and get to work! :D

There is always a risk with newer cameras that Canon might change something in their firmware to make it difficult or even impossible to port CHDK.   That happened when they switched operating systems a few years ago for example and when they periodically change how their firmware is stored.

Having said that, the IXUS220/ELPH300HS seems to have been successfully ported so I'd guess that the chances are good the ELPH100 would be do-able as it was launched on the same day.

Wow - enthusiasm.   Before you get too excited,  do you know a bit about software development - especially C and assembler ?    And do you have literally hundreds of hours to spare while you come up a steep curve learning CHDK, the porting process and how things work ?   Don't get me wrong,  it can be a lot of fun if you like that sort of thing. But its not a "one weekend project" by any means - especially your first time.

I think Ill just go for the SD780 just because its a little cheaper. I don't really want to spend to much because the things I want to do will put this camera at a pretty high risk of damaging something.

And yes I write/use C/C++ everyday and know enough about assembly that I could get by. Trust me, this wouldn't be my first time doing this type of thing, just a different object to do it on really.

Thanks a TON for you help!

If you get an SD780 with firmware that's not currently supported,  its a whole lot easier to convert between versions that do a new port.  Ping me if you need help.
