is there a way of turning the lcd off/on with chdk on the canon powershot sx200is?

im gonna try some astrophoto with the camera and i dont want the lcd to be turned on while im near the telescope.

so when all settings and stuff is done i would like to turn the lcd off and then take the shot and after that turn the lcd on again.


i couldnt find such a setting (to turn lcd off) on the original firmware, but i cant find it on chdk either.

Script command set_backlight, http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Script_commands

Doesn't turn off the LCD but disables all the light coming out of it, which should suffice for this purpose. The backlight likely turns back on after each shot whether you want it to or not.

Well, not much skill required. If you don't have other scripts involved in your shooting, then you just write a plain text file that has only one line:

set_backlight 0

save it as lcdoff.bas in CHDK/SCRIPTS, load it from the script menu and press full shutter in alt mode to run it and then press alt to exit alt mode.

doesnt seem to work :(

when activating the script the lcd turns off completely (and thats good)

then im pressing the shortcut/print button to exit <alt> mode.

but when pressing the shutter-button for taking the picture the lcd just turns on but the camera doesnt take any picture. (the flash dont go off and the camera makes no sound)

and when looking in the sd-card no picture was taken/saved.

(ive also tried pressing the shutter-button after starting the script to turn off the lcd without exiting <alt> mode, but then nothing happens at all and the lcd is still turned off. but i guess thats because im just running the script again since in <alt> mode)

what am i doing wrong? or is it something with the script and/or camera or some setting?

It's possible to add that script line to another script, for example to the ultra intervalometer?
