OK, put the normal script code back in place but 'rem cover_lens 10' to disable it.

Do you hear a beep every ten seconds ?

I did that but the camera still crashed. I took out the backlight lines and that fixed the problem. It goes to the movie subroutine without any beeps though.

So, with only backlight commented-out the camera continues with the script after 'removing the lenscap' and flashes autofocus led for five seconds ?

AF led probably incorrect in CHDK builds.
Backlight firmware  address probably incorrect, I will check.

The play_sound() function address may be incorrect.

Assuming you have enabled sound in the Canon menu, try this :-

@title beep
sleep_for_seconds 2
beep
sleep_for_seconds 2
end

Oops I have the camera on mute :P
It beeps now and goes on correctly.

So, again,  with only backlight commented-out does the camera continue  with the script after 'removing the lenscap' and does the autofocus led flash  for five seconds ?

I will check-out the backlight.

In the meantime, run attached script but interrupt it when the movie finishes.

(remove .txt from script name, though it will still run)

In LOG.txt, check the date and time.
Do they correspond with the camera settings ?

Incidentally, to detect lenscap removal a certain light level is expected so it may be too dark indoors.

If it gets stuck, turn on a desk light or similar.

The times correspond. I attached the log file if you want to see it  :D
