@waterwingz:
The message window doesn't let me add the log files, so I give them here.
Additional thought:
I think, you can make the difference between alt and normal key function smaller, so e.g. up to ~ half second = alt mode, more = normal function. Now the camera waits (with chosen video button) around 2 seconds to realize, that I want the normal function.

Observation:
When I select the video button for alt mode, the play button - while in alt mode - has lost it's function.

Thank you for your work! Ruedi

got an occasion that the camera will hang

while taking picture of nearly complete darkness in a long distance, and flash is turned on, after the shot is taking and I can see the flash fired, the camera hangs.

I repeat it by blocking the lens completely, with the flash on, I press the shutter button and it took a photo, flash is fired and then hanged.

Thank you very much waterwingz! True hacking! You just gave me a new camera.

I have a 101c version and it works perfectly for me. I mostly tested dng and badpixel creation, no flaws. OCDs are fine too.

I will keep testing and reporting new versions and please feel free to ask for specific tests.

After approximately an hour of trying to make a script with set_focus, I finally found out that there's already working manual focus on WW's firmware! :o Just go to "extra photo operations" and change "value factor (mm)" under the "override subj. dist. v" from 0 to any. it's better to change "override subj. dist. v" value too. after that control the focus by zoom in/out. the focus isn't as on dslr cameras, but it's still great anyway.
p.s. yes, maybe I'm a slowpoke :D :D :D

Done.  Should be updated in the autobuild server tonight / tomorrow.

I'm confused.   Why do you need the Play button in  <ALT> mode ?  What am I missing ?

Its not my code - and I'm as surprised as you.  After two years working away at CHDK,  I get surprised too !

You are right, this is not self-describing and it is not a bug, I just remembered the function. I often try settings and then I switch to play mode to see the result and back to record to try more. Possibly I can write for me a simple shoot script, which switches the camera back to play mode and with some back-forth button functions, so it would do the same.

More observations (beta 1 - oh, how are they counted now? oh just found: 1.1.0-r1977):
  • The display of menu and file manager (alt mode) are often flickering. Sometimes also parts of the menu are disappearing: a block cut out, sometimes the whole menu disappears, moving the marker lets it appear gain. And all while the display is flickering (not the Canon-part of the display, only the CHDK-foreground). Up to now I couldn't see the rules for this and the only idea I have is, that it is connected to a low battery. I'll try to make pictures (or a movie) of it.
  • When I use the german.lng text file, sometimes the place for the entry "Script Settings" is empty (I can go into that sub-menu). Going into sub-menus and back has no influence on appearing or disappearing. Possible is a connection to my changing to another font file (which menu entry represents the standard font?). Same as before: no rules found.
  • File manager: file size is not shown, if the file is bigger than 1,048,575 bytes: one byte more and the place for the size is empty (no, not "0").
  • File manager: Files with a non-ascii letter (e.g. ä, ü, é, ĝ) are sometimes not in the files list; now, when I tried it again, they were shown with cryptic characters and are seemingly not accessible: file size "? ? ?". But this is not really a problem.
  • Calling the file manager for selecting another language file can lead to an error.
    Reproduce:
go to alt menu, visual settings, chose "language..." (file manager opens), chose file (or just keep the present language file).
Repeat this! The ninth or tenth call of the file manager leads to the error message "fail to load fselect.flt: file not found". The error is also present now, when you call the file manager from any other menu. It's also not possible now to "reset files" (menu "visual settings")
The error cannot be forced from another menu option. It also doesn't arise, when you, instead of selecting a file, abort the file manager (button "menu").
To get the file manager back you need to switch the camera off and on again.
(I stumbled only by chance over this behavior, but who knows, if it leads to a solution for another bug.)
  • Choosing symbols file icon_16.rbf leads to icons not shown in the menus. Sometimes they reappear, when I choose icon_10.rbf, sometimes I need to switch the camera of and on again, but at other times, I need to reset all.
  • In the changelog.txt is a dead link to kernreaktor.org
  • The creation of badpixel.bin is still connected to unreproduced rules: one time it fails several times, then suddenly it is created. Trying this again fails or is effort.
  • The video zoom out (combined mechanic + digital) still is restricted to digital zoom (I heard: the problem is deep in the code).
Thank you for coding! Ruedi

Can you please give some more info, e.g. firmware version, settings (e.g a fresh install, camera set to auto-mode or "P"-mode, ...)? I tried it with 1.01b, beta1 (oh, it's fw1.01b chdk-1.1.0r1977beta) and couldn't reproduce this behavior.

The display of menu and file manager (alt mode) are often flickering. Sometimes also parts of the menu are disappearing: a block cut out, sometimes the whole menu disappears, moving the marker lets it appear gain.

In my testing I get flickering if I have the Native Display on (showing shutter speed and F stop etc) and the Over/Under Exposure on at the some time. They seem to constantly over-write each other and flicker. Turn either of them off and flickering stops. I have no problem with the histogram.

regarding "error message "fail to load fselect.flt: file not found".  Does the file CHDK/MODULES/fselect.flt exist on your SD card ?.

Yes, and it doesn't disappear. I thought now, maybe it is searched now in the root directory or in the CHDK main directory. I copied it there, but the result is the same. ("... not found") (this happens also with r1983)

1,01b-1.1.0r1983: Oh - I just tried the firmware update method to load CHDK, but "Update File Error!!!" (Canon message). The ps.fi2 is there!

Choosing symbols file icon_16.rbf leads to icons not shown in the menus. Sometimes they reappear, when I choose icon_10.rbf, sometimes I need to switch the camera of and on again, but at other times, I

With the in-built font you can only use icon_10.rbf. icon_16.rbf is for bigger self choosen fonts and works not with the in-built font. In this case CHDK turns off the menu option 'Enable Symbols'.
