Battery door is closed correctly.
You need to ensure that the tab on the battery door that engages the little switch that detects the door being open has not broken off.  If that happens, the camera will appear to not start even with the battery door closed.

Also, when you first loaded CHDK,  was it on a card that was formatted to be bootable ? And if so,  did you set the SD card lock switch to the "locked" position ?

Or did you load CHDK with the "firmware update" option from the Canon menus ?

Is there any other way, how to make sure version is 100C? ver.req or vers.req seems not working on my camera.
Read this :How can I get the original firmware version number of my camera ?  But you have enough stuff working that I suspect you have the right firmware version. Typically the wrong firmware version does not boot at all.

I can load CHDK (automaticall or manually), but when loading I see just red rectangle with text, no logo above, and also some orange rectangle is blinking on the same location.
That usually means you did not expand the complete distribution to your SD card correctly.  Or if you are using a multiple partition setup,   you expanded the CHDK archive file to the wrong partition (needs to be on the large FAT32 partition - not the small FAT16 partition that diskboot.bin is on).  The round CHDK logo at startup is loaded from the SD card - if CHDK can't find it then it is not displayed.

UPDATE : just looked at some of the files posted on this forum.  The developers for some reason are not posting full CHDK distribution files - just the executable.  No wonder you are confused.

But biggest problem is I can't get to CHDK menu. I tried all keys but unsuccessfully. What key is for entering ALT mode on this camera?
Hmmm ... let me look back in this forum thread for you.  Does this help ? http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=6751.msg72459#msg72459

@Just.J: I tried the alpha5 version for my camera which is 1.01A. The zoom out problem remains. I am able to zoom in. The moment I try to zoom out the zoom freezes where it is and I am neither able to zoom out nor zoom in. However, I can zoom in, pause and continue zooming in. It seems that there is something to do with recognizing the zoom out button. Is there something that needs to be done to unlock zoom out in a video just as you have unlocked zoom in.  Thanks.

@waterwingz  I extract 2 files to non bootable SD card with my photos. Then I put the card into the camera and tried to turn it on -  zero response. A small switch that detects the door being open is OK. I think that the camera had died through no fault of CHDK only electronically damaged.

Feature request: Can move the time stamp further down to the bottom right? And a reasonably small size will do. The current time stamp location and size is spoiling the photo's appearance.

Possible, but highly unlikely ... to be sure nothing broke, try this (assuming you have a card reader):

1) save any pics you value on the card to your computer

2) format (full, not quick!) your card via the computer (FAT, FAT32 or exFAT, but NOT NTFS)

3) remove camera battery for 10 secs to assure it is really off

4) reinsert card into camera (write protect should be OFF!)

5) camera should now start normally in Canon mode

hope that helps,

wim

This means your problem has nothing to do with CHDK.  The card was not bootable so DISKBOOT.BIN would not have been loaded and run.   And you didn't go to the menu and select "Firmware Update' so the ps.fi2 file was not used either.

Thanks for the reply on Super Fine.

I tried the latest version and I can't even get it to load. Just blank screen and freezes. Tried using all FW versions (to make sure I had the right one to begin with). Version 4 1.01b works for me (and seems to be right ???), just no RAW or video. I'm using the ALT method to load CHDK. I can try to get a FW dump, but I'm confused how following the directions on universal dumper. The hex of one of my pictures says FW version 1.01.

EDIT: I used the cameraversion tool and found that, yes, I do have 1.01b. I tried using a smaller card, using card tricks to make it bootable, and loading that way, and still blank screen (battery pull to fix). Not sure what changed, but it's not working. I tried re-formatting the card to make sure it was clean, and still no go. Thanks for the work!

Hi, coders!
I use - since some days - an Ixus 115 and, as alpha5 didn't start, I used alpha4 (which does it).
I found the following problems:
- Scripts don't start every time, but I need to restart the camera to start them successfully.
- Scripts sometimes don't stop themselves, but need to be stopped after execution.
- Games: - display is squeezed to the left side of the display to 1/3rd of the width.
---------------- It's only squeezed to the half - sorry.
                 - 4-wins: no colors, i cannot see opponents stones (but the machine tells me, who won)
---------------- Game-'board' color changes: one time it was orange, one time white.
- Colors of the palette for the menu background changes - not clear about correlations to going into
sub-menus; done before: I changed the background color.
------- Further testing: palettes in shooting and playback mode are not the same.
- Video: start video = camera switches to off after ~2 seconds, before this the diode on the
front side (AF-helper light?) glows with normal brightness for about 1/4 to 1/3rd second. I deactivated
optical zoom and AF-button, but that didn't change the behavior. A movie hasn't been stored.
- Other found problems: I will do more tests with them, before I report them here.

Thank you for your effort! Ruediger
