i thought CHDK would allow videos up to the 4gb-limit because of fat32, but my camera still stops at 9:59min in 720p/1080p quality. is there an option i didnt find or is there no override for the max. video length/filesize in CHDK for the Ixus115?
Sorry - no. One story is that Canon stuck that limit in to avoid the higher import duties charged on HD video recorders.

In any case, its technically possible to bypass but has seldom been done.   See these threads :

Update :   nafraf just pointed out on IRC that the ixus310 has the video time limit overrides built-in to its movie_rec.c code.   That cameras was released a couple of months after the ixus115 in 2011 so its quite possible a similiar patch could be added to the ixus115 code.  It will take someone with the knowledge to make the patch and somebody with the camera to test it out though.

@2face
A version of CHDK for ixus115 1.01a with video time limit modification is in attachment.  Please test if it is working and report.

Hi nafraf, thanks for your work!

I added the "PS.FI2" from the latest beta to the attached files, without i couldn´t see the "Firmware Upgrade" option in playback mode.

Your version works, but here is still a 9:59 time limit. I didn´t find a new option in the CHDK menu, so i thought the limit override could be set as standard in your modification - right? Recording stops at 9:59 minutes with about 2,5GB filesize in FullHD.

There was also a problem with the optical zoom in video: "zoom in" did only work in the first seconds, "zoom out" never - but i never tested this feature before, so this could be a problem in other builds, too.

The PS.FI2 file is for starting CHDK with the "firmware upgrade" menu. nafraf's version only contains DISKBOOT.BIN + the modules, etc, it needs to be started with the "bootable sd card" method.
After you extracted his archive to your card, and started with the firmware upgrade method, locate "Make card bootable" in the CHDK menu. You'll find it inside "Miscellaneous stuff" somewhere. Execute it, switch off the camera, protect the card with the write protection switch, put it back and switch on the cam. CHDK should start automatically.

You'll only see his version after you do what's written above.

I've added this note because the difference between ps.fi2 and diskboot.bin files confused me a lot when I first started using CHDK.  Took me a while to realize that you could put either file on an SD card on its own and load CHDK as long as you used the right method to start it.  They don't need (or use) each other.

To clarify that a bit,  when CHDK software is compiled,  the exact same code is used to produce two different executable files.  Each file contains "CHDK" (i.e. the same compiled computer program) but they are formatted slightly differently to allow them to be loaded differently by the camera.  The ps.fi2 file can only be manually loaded by the "firmware update" method and the diskboot.bin file can only be automatically loaded by the"SD card lock" method.

So when you added a ps.fi2 file to nafraf's version,  you were in fact installing and then running the original code.  None of his changes were present in your testing.

Hi,
I post under development releases to forum, so I don't generate full version with PS.FI2 files.  In future posts I'll be clearer to avoid misunderstandings.  :)

There was also a problem with the optical zoom in video: "zoom in" did only work in the first seconds, "zoom out" never - but i never tested this feature before, so this could be a problem in other builds, too.
Zoom problem was reported in previous post.  Please test this new version, zoom out should work.

PS.FI2 file was not generated, so you'll need to use the bootable SD-Card method to load CHDK.

thanks @all for the useful information - the SD-card is now bootable, i´ve started a new HD-recording a few seconds ago.
i tested the zoom in video mode - it works now, zoom in and zoom out. i will report in about 10 minutes... :)

edit: i´m using timelimit v1, zoom works.

update: with timelimitV1 (i hope it was) the limit was still active. i deleted all old CHDK files on the SD-card now and start testing v2...

What are you referring to when you say "timelimit" ?
