Could someone point me on how to use manual focus on this camera? I must be doing something wrong since I can't get this to work.
I think its covered here :  http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=6751.msg87764#msg87764

BTW, I've build lens profiles (ACR/LR) for all focal length/zoom steps and it works very well. Drop me a line if interested.
By all means,   a description of what you did would be great.  Post it here or start a new thread about "creating lens profiles".   If you are really feeling keen,  a wiki page on the subject would be great !

Huh!! Just found rev.1993 on the server. Downloaded it and put it on the card and tried to start the camera. Nothing! The camera doesn't do anything: no sound, no lens movement, no light - just nothing. Tried again #1990 - works again (needed to take out the battery for some seconds); put in 1993 - again nothing. Switch write protect to off, battery out and in: now it starts. Went to firmware update - and again the camera is dead. So I'm back to #1990.

Off topic?
Yesterday I was very irritated, as one card, which I use regularly, was completely empty. First I thought of an error by me: took all from the card to make a clean install, but I realized, that the card label was reset to none (mine is usually CANONDC_2G). Has anyone else observed something like that? Possible (and I fear), that it has nothing to do with CHDK at all, but is connected to some misbehavior on my system (ubuntu 10.4). No important data was affected.

Is there any chance you downloaded the wrong firmware version ?  Nothing changed in the svn repository related to the ixus115 - the builds should be the same (other than the embedded date information).

Wow, this is so nice to have DNG's to work with.  i can finally see just how good a sensor this cam has (and just how much distortion is in the lens, tho it is quite sharp).  Thank you waterwingz.

i may be doing something wrong tho.  i made a badpixel.bin, script says 16480 bad pixels.  i use ufraw to import the DNG's into the Gimp.  i find the imported image covered in a spray of bad pixels, the same pattern whichever option i choose for Manual Bad Pixel Removal in the RAW Parameters menu.  i'm using build 1.1.0-1993.

Works ok with my A650.

Are you using DNG version 1.1 or 1.3 (as set in the RAW menu) ?   As I understand the difference,  1.1 will make the corrections in the camera and 1.3 leave that up to your photoprocessing software.

AH!!  You're right, i looked and the A650 is set to DNG 1.1 while the ELPH100HS was set to DNG 1.3.  i changed that and everything is fine.

i was a bit surprised the ELPH100 has that many bad pixels.  The A650 has around half that number.

There's just no comparison in high ISO noise tho.  The A650 sensor at ISO400 is a mess of smeary, blotchy, ugly looking noise while the 100HS shows quite a nice noise pattern, a lot more like shooting with fast film.

Finally got the time and energy to get this working. A few questions though...and links would be nice if there are explanations on these things.

First, I couldn't get the bad pixel bin to work it failed both times I tried. So I'd like to get raw up and running, but this is a sticking point. Any tips?

Second, why has the size of my photos dropped off so largely. I tried superfine,  fine, and normal. But even on superfine with the override, I am only getting 2MB photo. I'm sure this is due to the default settings of CHDK, but I'd imagine superfine should be between 6MB and 10MB for a 12 MP camera. Does anyone know the original set up of the camera and what is changed in the CHDK settings. (before CHDK my photos on fine were 3.5 to 5 MB each).

Edit: Using ixus115_elph100hs-101a-1.1.0-1997-full_BETA.zip.

Thanks.

You don't need bad pixel data to get RAW working.  Its only needed for DNG.  Here's a couple of recent posts : http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=8267.msg87476#msg87476

Did you change the compression settings in the Canon menu by any chance ?

Try disabling CHDK by booting with the SD card lock switch off,  take a picture, reboot with the card lock on and take the same picture.  Compare file sizes ?
