What is the value factor?

I recently installed CHDK on my Canon A495 Camera. When I access the alternate menu, I see something called Value Factor underneath some options.

For example: When I went to override the shutter speed, underneath that option there is one called "Value Factor" I can only set it to 1 or off. I am not sure what the function of that is. The same case applies to Overriding the ISO factor.

Please clarify what is this Value Factor? Should I put it to 1 or off?

Set it to OFF  to disable shutter speed override.  Set it to 1 to enable shutter speed override.

In general in the <ALT> menus,  value factor is like a multiplier. You multiply the value by the value factor.  For example, take a look at the Override ISO value and value factor on the same menu.  Set the overide to 64 and the value factor to 1 and get ISO 64.  Set the overide to 64 and the value factor to 10 and get ISO 640.

Update :  take a look at this short animated link < Search > which will get your to this http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK_User_Manual#Override_Subject_Distance for a good explanation of Value Factor.
