CHDK won't start on SD870IS with external power (ACK-DC30)

I recently bought a ACK-DC30 adapter so I could get external power to my camera (an SD870IS) for some time-lapse shooting. But if I have the camera powered by the adapter and the lock button engaged on my SD card so that I can get to the CHDK menu, I get a "no memory card" error from the camera (I do not get the error with a battery, or with the adapter and the lock off on the SD card).  I'm not sure why that would happen, any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave

P.S. If anyone knows a good script or has advice on shooting a single time lapse that includes night and day shooting and will expose properly for both (longer/brighter exposures in the night/dark, shorter exposures in the day/light), that would also be quite helpful.

Well, I found SunsetF16 script which seems like a great one for time-lapses in changing light. I'm still hoping someone has an idea why the camera can't see the memory card when it's plugged in and trying to load CHDK. I was planning on using it this weekend and am just confounded by the issue, I can't figure out why the power source would affect the camera reading the memory card.

I'm not familiar with the SD870.  Is the external adapter one of those that connects by replacing the battery with a shell of the same size or does it plug in externally ? If its a battery replacement and it sits in the same cavity as the SD card,  then obviously any pressure on the SD card by the battery shell might cause the card not to connect correctly.

It is the type with "dummy battery" that goes into the battery slot next to the SD card. I'll have to play with it a little when I get home tonight to see if pressure affects anything, but I doubt it. The camera works fine when I boot up normally into regular Canon mode, it's only when I try and boot into CHDK (through either the SD card lock or by starting the camera in play mode) that I get the "no memory card" error. If it was pressure it seems to me that it would either always not work, or randomly not work depending on how the plug was applying pressure... Though unfortunately I don't have any better ideas, so you could be right.
