Help S3 IS

Ok I was one step away from a G9, which I may still get. Why because I like it. But anyway I do a lot of backpacking and have used the S3 IS and/or my Rebel. On my trips. The Rebel is just to heavy and to bulky and the S3 IS does not do RAW. Basic background complete now for my questionssssss.

Does the software have to be put on every SD card? I sometimes fill 2 - 3 SD cards when I go hiking. Well I go for at least a week at a time.

Any idea how many RAW files fit on one 1gig SD card?

How big are the RAW files?

Will CS2 handle the RAW files or do I have to jump thru hoops (DNG) to get them processed?  Main reason I am not crazy about the G9. Plus I don't want to upgrade to CS3. To many printing issues.

Yes. It should be on each SD-card to be able to run it. CHDK con not be stored in the camera itself.

1G / (size_of_raw + size_of_jpg) ~ 100-120 shots

For S3 it will be 6Mpx*10bit/8bit ~ 7.5Mb

You can convert RAW-files to DNG and use CS2. Or use another converters which support CHDK-RAW files directly.

Thank you very helpful.

Well I guess I still have to decide a new G9 and upgrade to CS3 or stick with my S3 IS, Staying with the S3 would save me a lot of money  :D
