Different Firmware (follow up on 2009 thread)

Sorry to start a new thread, but the existing one is from 2009 and does not solve my problem.

I have two Canon A640's.  I bought one new years ago, and the other (used) recently to do book copying with two cameras.  While the cameras appear to be identical, one offers REMOTE CAPTURE and the other doesn't.  Both connect without problems to my Vista system.

Menus are also different, but at this point I am only concerned with having REMOTE CAPTURE available on both cameras.

My question is very basic.  Can I retrieve the firmware from camera 1 and load it into camera 2?

Alternatively, can I find a source for the firmware in camera 1 and download it for inserting into camera 2?

With only a few hours of reading/scanning CHDK subjects, I am far from understanding this subject very well.  If the answer to my question is yes, I will then begin to figure HOW to load firmware into my Canon A640.  I do appreciate your help and understanding you can supply.

While it might be technically possible,  so far nobody has figured out how to do that to my knowledge.

Canon occasionally offers firmware upgrades for its P&S cameras - but usually only to fix a major bug.  So you are probably out of luck.   The official Canon web page satys "No firmware updates are available for this product."

However, CHDK offers remote capture via the USB port so if you can get it running on both cameras then maybe you have a path that way ? Details in the link below :

Got relief from my problem of cameras with different firmware.

I tried a suggestion to reset by leaving the camera without battery or SD card for a long period.  I also found an old installation CD for the camera model (and different computers).  Not sure what worked, but now both cameras function similarly.

Anybody have an idea of what has changed?
