Newbie question- A490 1.00E firmware

Well, this all started as a project to build a DIY bookscanner. Was entertaining the idea of other cameras, but noticed that Adorama and Beach Camera had refurbished A490's on sale. At first I could not find anything about the CHDK for that camera, and then, low and behold I saw a Beta available for it. Canon emailed me that they did not know the firmware versions of those cameras being sold.

Sooo, stupid me bought 2 of them for my build, hoping that they would have the 1.00F version, since they were refurbs. After much hair pulling, I realised that my cameras are apparently, according to "Camera Version" software, my cameras have the 1.00E version. (Not 100% sure of the accuracy, so attaching detailed EXIF below)

I noticed after much searching that there are links to the 1.00E dumps at, http://www.box.net/chdk#chdk/1/55272271/789432695/1 . Has anyone succeeded in making a version for this firmware? I just wanna use the remote control portion for triggering the 2 cameras, so I can build my book scanner.. :'(

Anyway, I need to stick on the lower cost range of ~10 megapixels, that is why I chose these particular cameras. If this can't easily be done, I may have to return the 490's for a different model while I can still return them, so any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks again for anyone's help!

If you haven't read this,  its a start : CHDK FAQ : My camera isn't ported yet

And there is someone working on a port for the D version : http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=5051.msg73367#msg73367.  But that's not your version and they have barely started.

I've done several of these ports for people and even though I kind of know what I'm doing,  its usually 6 hours work to do the port and another 6 hours to work to get through the debugging - assuming nothing weird goes wrong.

Somebody new with a software background can probably do the job if its their first time in two ten hour days if they are starting from scratch.  Recent experience with several other cameras bears this out.

To put that in perspective, if you can find an experience software engineer to work for $20 per hour (maybe in Puna, India or something) then doing the port is a $400 job.  Current contract rates are closer to 5x that.   You could buy two brand new top of the line CHDK compatible S95's for less than that.

So,  unless you find someone with the right skills and time who probably owns the same camera,  you might want to start thinking about the store's return policy.  Sorry - that's the way it goes.
