well as of default, chdk locks the firmware files, at least you cannot manipulate them via the built-in filebrowser. maybe we should start another thread on this topic though :)

@Barney

No, I think it's vital for many other (future) applications, unless we want to spend our time argueing over which feature is
more vital/fun etc.
BTW, about PhyrePhox's request, if you agree about switching this to another topic, maybe you could split off the relevant posts for us ? Or is he busy right now creating one ?  :haha

Well, if you don't think its out of place here, let's keep it here for the moment. If Phox wants to move elsewhere,
I don't mind - little space is required anyway, for the moment, 'cause we first need to find a way to do a
'cold reboot' = fully shutdown, then auto start without user intervention. Sorry for any confusion.

BTW Trunk's moving really fast - another cam added: ixus65_sd630 by cail (#317)  :D

CHDK already uses this way 'by design' to keep itself in memory and start its code before OS to be able to 'hook' some tasks. (Do not ask me details, I do not know)

@GrAnd

Thanks for your comment. I guess I should ask the DryOS porting guys, I've been reading their topic and saw that they
suffered a lot from 'bootloops' in the beginning ...

this is about rebooting, right? i'd first start with simple experiments like renaming the firmware files at chdk runtime, and if it is not possible, find out why. if it is possible, then renaming two chdk versions should do the trick. you would have to manually reboot the cam though, but the solution to that can be found later. imo.

...i'd first start with simple experiments like renaming the firmware files at chdk runtime...

I did it last night. Loading AllBest's, overwriting DISKBOOT.BIN and PS.FIR with Microfunguy's then rebooting and updating firmware in Canon menu.
It worked. StereoDataMaker splash and menu.

Then I tried to revert to AllBest's but I couldn't. SteroDataMaker kept loading.

I hope this eventually works but, quoting Morpheus: "It is not a matter of hope, but a matter of time"
