Yes it was a little windy which blurred the trees.  And that is amp glow on the upper left.  That was my first suspicion, but then I realized there was a tree over there that was lit by a light on a motion sensor that have have caused some lens flare if it came on and suspected that.

But tonight I did some 20second dark frames and confirmed it's amp glow.  I'll probably try shorter exposures to avoid that in the future unless we get any really cold nights this year.

Have another set running now, with fresh NiMH's and no RAW it's been going almost 2 hours and is still clicking away :D

Well with RAW files disabled and some new freshly charged NiMH's in there I was able to do over 2 hours of frames and still have 40% battery left tonight.  But I missed polaris again.

And I dropped my ISO from 800 to 200 and increased my exposure from 20 seconds to 35 seconds.  The lower ISO gave slightly cleaner images...but the longer exposures gave me much worse amp glow.

Still blown away by how many stars I can see from my own semi-urban backyard.

Startrail picture with a ELPH 300HS. You can see a few fireflies. DFS was off. I made darkframes manualy after taking the photos.

Is that ISO value you have in the copyright notice correct ?  It reads like you took 203 10 second exposures at high ISO ?

Yes it is correct. I had to use CHDK because Canon limits long exposure at 100 ISO on HS cameras.
