Hi,

As you probably have noticed, I am testing SimplePortal integration.

This was meant first and foremost to try and present more up-to-date info straight out of login.

Share your thoughts and feedback here, please.

What is "SimplePortal integration" and what should we see different ?  Sorry, but the change in the adverts throws me off about what else to look for.

Click on the 'Home' page.

Very different; but so far I like it.

Phil.

Click on the 'Home' page.
Wow - very different.  I have bookmark bar links to "All Unread",  "Unread"  & "Recent" that I use all the time.  When those don't work, I've always gone to what I thought was the "home" page : http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?action=forum

So the home Portal page looks nice compared to that.

<rant on>
However,  I expect that the "Recent Posts" stuff at the top will suffer from the same thing my "Recent" post link does - the daily flood of non-CHDK posts related to Canon DSLR stuff.   I'm happy that those 3 threads are busy but I just wish I could "ignore" them somehow when I check "Recent Posts".  It just seems the level of "chat" in those threads might be better on an IRC channel or on a dedicated web site.  This is especially annoying for me during breaks in my working day when I check the forum on my mobile phone and have to scroll through pages of DSLR chatter.
</rant off>

Thanks - I feel better now.

Hmm, yeah I get what you mean. Basically some way to select which boards to monitor.

I'll see if that's easy or not and get back to you.

As for the ads which one(s) are worst for you? There are things that I can do and others that probably won't. For example, I'm thinking of turning on the "first post" right side square to guests only, but still not sure.

Cheers!

I think I got it.

Go to your profile settings, you'll find a new "Ignore Board Settings" option. Try it out, it should be enough for what you need.

Quote
This page lets you ignore particular boards. When a board is ignored, the new post indicator will not show up on the board index. New posts will not show up using the "unread post" search link (when searching it will not look in those boards) however, ignored boards will still appear on the board index and upon entering will show which topics have new posts. When using the "unread replies" link, new posts in an ignored board will still be shown.

Cheers

I was thinking about deleting my rant as I really respect the work the DSLR developers are doing.  Saw your update and tried the new "Ignore Boards" posting.  Now that you've moved the DSLR stuff to their own board this works perfectly for what I wanted to see.  Thanks so much.

I'd say that you should do whatever generates the most revenue.  The ads don't bother me much at all.  If I can ask, do you get revenue for click-throughs, views or just for posting it ?  I click on the ones that interest me - I'll do more of that if it helps.

And thanks for the new "Spell Check" button !

Hey, that's tabu stuff! :) I'll get my ad$ense account suspended if there any kind of additional *help* on that matter... I just let if flow as is!

Thanks though!

I dunno if the portal "Recent Posts" central section is good enough for you (number of entries). I can add one for more senior users that has more recent posts than the current one ...

Well,  would it be better if that section showed "unread since last visit" or "unread all" rather that just "recent posts" - assuming that''s even possible ?  That's my usual browsing mode (unread all - the last visit thing can be confusing at times).   Not sure I understand what would work better so I'm just throwing that out for comments ?

Also, just noticed other sections displayed below the recent posts - how does it pick what to show there ?
