Canon G9 with firmware 1.00F - bug in SVN?..

Hello!

I have Canon G9 with firmware 1.00F.
Using CardTricks I've prepare 1Gb SD card, place there chdk g9-100f-0.9.9-1379 and..
At the loading CHDK in camera I see red splash with "Camera g9 - 100g".  :o
tryed to use g9-100f-0.9.9-1379-full with the same result - Camera g9 - 100g.
tryed also g9-100f-0.9.9-1373-full ..

Thus there is "firm update" item in menu and it is seems to work, but there is no ALT menu by clicking direct print button and there is no communication with PS Remote.

Another my camera - S3 IS flashed normally and working properly.

Is there any solutions?

Its not a bug.  It's because CHDK for G9 firmware 1.00f is exactly  the same as for firmware 1.00g.  In fact, 1.00f is never even built in the autobuild - the build script simply copies the 1.00g CHDK release file and renames it to 1.00f .

Did you start the camera by pressing the Play button (rather than the On/Off switch) when you attempted to use the Firmware Update method ?

Ok, it's clear with versions. Thank you!

But in any case there is no ALT menu, regular hangs and unstable connection with PC. Really seems as incorrect firmware or error while flashing.
And Startup splash have no image with CHDK LOGO like in my S3IS - there is only red rectangle with text.

I've to create foolproof automatic solution with G9 because it the power button removed from camera.

Just try to reflash S3 IS strictly following CHDK instruction - working fine!

A small detail - you are not "flashing" the camera when you run CHDK.  Flashing means you change the camera's permanent memory. CHDK simply loads in RAM and no permanent changes are made.

A couple of questions ?  How do you know you have firmware 1.00f ? And how did you setup your SD card ?  How big is it ? Did you expand the entire distribution file to the SD card ?  From a Mac or PC ?

The splash screen needs the file logo.dat in subdirectory CHDK/DATA.

Yes, I understand, that process is not exactly flashing, but dont know short description of process =)
Version of firmware displayed when I insert locked SD card with file "ver.req" and pressing SET&DISPLAY buttons in playback mode.

I've try some methods to prepare SD.
Setup of SD card (1GB size, WIN7, cardreader Pretec AUB36P or internal cardreader of DELL Inspiron 6400 "SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller Vendor"):
1. formating it in camera low-lewel or with CardTricks 1.44
2. making a partition with SDM Installer or with CardTricks 1.44
3. making SD bootable
4. copying unzipped content of g9-100f-0.9.9-1379-full.zip  to SD by hands or with CardTricks 1.44
5. locking SD

In result, Update Firm menu appears in camera, 1.0.0.0 -> 1.1.0.0, and seems as working but there is no ALT menu under any key of G9. Thinking that I try all keys and their combinations to find ALT menu =)

I think you can just use the word "load" or "loading" instead of "flash" or "flashing".  I only pointed it out to avoid having someone new read this and think we are changing the camera's firmware somehow.

It sounds like you are doing everything right. But the fact that the CHDK logo does not display tells us that when CHDK loads from your SD card,  it can't find the logo file though. So this is more than just a problem getting the menus to work,   And the default <ALT> menu key for the G9 is the Print Request - although that can be changed from the ALT menus.

Sorry - I'm out of ideas to suggest at this point.  Especially as you are an experienced user and familiar with CHDK from your other camera and thus not likely to be making newbie mistakes.  If it was my camera,  I'd probably start playing with the code and working through things just as if it was a new port.  But that may not be possible for you to do?

Maybe somebody else will have some suggestions - it maybe sounds like the two firmware versions are not identical like somebody thought ?

@toxarbk
- prepare the card with Cardtricks, one single partition, FAT16 formated & CHDK bootable
- do NOT prepare your card with dual partitions, use one single partition
- download a fresh CHDK FULL package from the Autobuild server, expand ALL files to the SD card's root folder
- only remove your SD card / card reader with Window's "Safely remove hardware" function

Test your camera's PRINT button without  running CHDK !
e.g. you can assign the "Sleep" function to this button from within the Canon menu...
