In shoot mode, if I try to bring up chdk menu it shuts cam down.
Does it crash in shoot mode if either movie_rec or capt_seq are commented out ? Or both are commented out ?

yes, it was crashing before i touched the cap and movie files and with them commented out in boot.c

so let me guess, that means it cant be either of those 2 files since it crashed with them commented out.

cam in shoot mode only crashed after i see alt icon and try to bring chdk menu up.

does not crash if i dont try to bring chdk menu up.

stable in play mode.

debug light made it through cap file lighting up fine and then turning off once cam started doing its thing.

scratch that: I chose copy instead of cut the first time so the whole time it was lighting up from the first function.

I am re debugging it now.

Ok, debug light on in the first function of cap_seq.

It was off in next function so now I am working my way down from top.

Hopefully thats what I should be doing to debug this file, I am using the 2nd light code you sent me too.

Ok, no light comes on after the 1st sub_ in the first function of cap_seq.

the line before that, the light comes on.

if the light is before line 25: "BL      sub_FF839BD8 \n"  the light goes on???

Ok, light does come on under:
void __attribute__((naked,noinline)) capt_seq_task() {
and
void __attribute__((naked,noinline)) exp_drv_task() {

just nowhere else in that file.

Is this good, maybe I misunderstood, is it only suppose to be tested at the first line of every function?

Also, movie_rec must be good cause light comes on when I switch to movie mode with debug light in that file.

dude   (I think that's the right North American term in vogue with people under 40 ?)

So far nobody has complained but your stream of conciseness  postings here might not be really appropriate for an online forum.  This is not twitter or 4chan after all.

I know you are excited and have done an amazing job for someone with no software experience.  There is a CHDK IRC site that might work better for you on irc.freenode.net - channel #chdk.  Sometimes there is nobody there but bots but 4 PM to midnight USA east coast time there is usually somebody.  Google IRC - its an internet holdover chat room type thing from the 1990's.   Like many of us :)

Oh darn, I am sorry, and your right, its not twitter, I am just excited.

I remember IRC, I use to use it back then.

I thought you would need to know my findings if you were able to help.

I will not post again, sorry, Ill just try to figure it out.

Take care and thanks for your help.

http://webchat.freenode.net/  works if you don't have an IRC client

Hey !  Posting questions is fine - its what the forum is for.  I was just trying to suggest you take a few minutes to work things out yourself before posting.  Or that you go to the IRC channel for more immediate feedback.

I understand, I wasn't thinking, just brainstorming ideas I guess with someone, but your right, IRC is the place for that, I truly am sorry.

I'll do my best to figure things out, thanks again for being so patient with me, I agree with you 1000% for me posting way way to much.
