So, im new to chdk, and to photography that isn't in point and shot automode in general.
Im trying to learn to use the manual mode of my camera instead, and im reading understanding exposure by bryan petterson.
Before i used a sony cybershot w270, but she dyed sometimes ago, so i started looking for another camera to buy, and found out about chdk. So, given im doing a graphic school where i will attend photography class also, i decided to buy a sx220 to have the option to shoot in RAW.
Usually without chdk, i set an aperture that it think it's right for the shoot, then i look at the light meter and choose a shutter speed that make it go at the central position. This seems to make me shoot decent photos.
Now, if i want to use apertures or shutter speeds overriden by CHDK, they dont show in the live view, only after i shooted. So i cant use the camera light meter to adjust my exposure.
From what i understand, i have all the information that i need to shot the photo in the misc and dof indicators of CHDK, but i cant read them because im pretty noob.
What is the parameter that i should read that is comparable to the light meter in the camera? And what is the correct value that indicate a correct exposure, similar at the 0 value of the camera light meter?
And, let's suppose im shooting a landscape and i want the larger DOF. From the CHDK faq i understand that the parameter i need to read is HYP. Let's say HYP is 2 m. In pratical terms, this means i have to point my focus 2 m in front of me to obtain the highest DOF?
I would be really grateful is someone could explain to me all the various parameters of those indicators in more down to earth and less technical terms than those used in the faqs.
