Shutter speed override not working on G12 Ver1.00E

CHDK boots and loads fine.

Did full CHDK reset via misc. menu options.

Then set;
Disable Overrides = Disable
Override shutter speed = 64
Value factor = 1
Shutterspeed enum type = Ev Step

Camera in Manual mode, but also tried TV, AV, PRG modes with same results.

TV:64 is shown in orange color on upper left corner of the OSD, but camera uses default 1/250 (or whatever it's set to) and never the longer override value of 64-seconds.

Nothing connected to the hot shoe... saw that was a problem with the G9 that someone mentioned.

What am I doing wrong?

BTW... CHDK version is correct and it's the latest one available (3/23/11).

The Canon OSD does not show the CHDK override values; however the camera should still use the override values to take the image.

With the settings you listed you should get a 64 second exposure even though that's not shown by the Canon OSD.

(The CHDK override values are also not saved in the JPEG image.)

Thanks for the reply.

Maybe the G12's OSD is different, because it shows the Canon exposure on the bottom left as 1/250 and in the upper left there is a display of "TV:64" which is what it's set to in CHDK.

Once I open the shutter I count and even with the camera's set to 15-seconds and CHDK set to ~4 minutes, it never goes any longer than 15-seconds.

I've been playing around with it, diffferent settings, resetting the camera, etc. and I'm just not having any luck getting long exposures.

I must be doing something wrong, but I just can't figure out what that may be... it seems no other G12 owners have reported any problems, so the problem must be me! :)

The "TV:xx" value is the CHDK OSD not the Canon OSD so it is showing the override value set in the CHDK menus. If this is showing a value then the override is active and the camera should use this shutter speed when the shutter is pressed.

I just tried it on mine (1.00c) and noticed that if you half press the shutter and wait for it to calculate the focus & exposure, then fully press the shutter the override works.

However if you quickly press the shutter fully without waiting on the half press then the override doesn't work and the camera uses the Canon calculated exposure value.

Does this match what you are seeing?

Edit:
I'll look at the code to see why the override is not working on a quick shutter press.
Beta 8 has been uploaded which should fix this problem.
Use the version linked to at http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=5967.0, it will take a little while for the main code base to get updated and the autobuild version to include this change.

Regards,
Phil.

Even with the half-press of the shutter I still could not get it to use the value set in CHDK.

However, I'm happy to report the new version fixed the problem! :)

And I just want to confirm that like was reported by a G9 user, on the G12 too, if something is connected to the hot shoe, the override value is ignored and whatever the camera is set to will be used. The hot shoe needs to be empty (open) for the CHDK value to be used.

Thanks for the fix!

One problem fixed at least - I'll add the flash overrides to the list of things to look into.
Thanks for letting me know.

On the hot shoe there is a micro switch under the left-hand side slider. That switch is telling the camera something is connected. As long as that switch is depressed any value set with CHDK is ignored, even with all flash settings turned off and even with just a blank cover installed over the contact points.

Thanks, again, for getting shutter speed override fix posted so quick!

I was trying to use this script

http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=4118.0

And I was not having much luck setting the shutter speed values to be what I wanted them to be.

Has can someone test this script to see if it is compatible?
