Hello guys,
I am a newbie and was trying to figure out how I can gain access to vxworks command line of my SD1000 over the USB? is that possible? if not, is there a hardware tweak to do that?

what I am trying to do is to remotely control the camera. I did install the CHDK but after I enabled the remote option from the menu, the camera doesn't show up in my pc anymore.
Any hints are appreciated!

The remote option is for a simple remote shutter using the USB port, so it just detects voltage, not USB protocol, see http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/USB_Remote_Cable.  CHDK hides the USB voltage signal from the canon firmware in this mode, because otherwise it would try to go into picture transfer mode.

What you want for remote control is the PTP extension http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/PTP_Extension or the Canon SDK if your camera supports it.

Accessing a vxworks shell would not really help you, and is not currently possible over PTP (although it could be done with some modest hacking). If you do want to talk to the vxworks shell, you can also wire up to the serial port http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/UART
Don't forget what the H stands for.
