Hi Phil,

I also have firmware 1.00d on my SX40hs. I tried the version you posted and so far so good. It loaded, I could access the ALT mode and played a little with the OSD configuration. I'm still fighting to get a long exposure picture,  but this is my first time with CHDK and I still have to play a little more with it in order to understand if it is working ok or not. If you have something specific that you would like to test, let me know and I will try it. Thank you.

Pablo.

Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like it works well enough to add to the autobuild server as an ALPHA version.

The key things to check are:
- overrides for shutter speed, aperture, ISO and subject distance
- RAW / DNG image capture
- movie quality override

Phil.
CHDK ports:
  sx30is (1.00c, 1.00h, 1.00l, 1.00n & 1.00p)
  g12 (1.00c, 1.00e, 1.00f & 1.00g)
  sx130is (1.01d & 1.01f)
  ixus310hs (1.00a & 1.01a)
  sx40hs (1.00d, 1.00g & 1.00i)
  g1x (1.00e, 1.00f & 1.00g)
  g5x (1.00c, 1.01a, 1.01b)
  g7x2 (1.01a, 1.01b, 1.10b)

I have a question/Issue.  Canon sx40 with a 16 GB SDHC card works just fine.  Just installed a new SDXC 64 GB card with chdk code on it, and it goes thru the firmware update, and the make disk bootable, but when I lock the card, reinsert and start the camera, I get a "Camera Card is Locked" message, and not the chdk boot.

Have tried several times.....

Any workaround??

Thanks

Craig

On older cameras CHDK could only boot from a FAT16 partition so cards larger than 4GB had to be partitioned.

With the new cameras in 2011 CHDK can boot from a FAT32 partition so the limit is now 32GB before you have to partition the card.

Support for creating a partitioned card, booting from it and swapping partitions is currently not included in CHDK for the SX40.

32 GB is not a 'hard' limit for FAT32, so maybe CraigC can try to format with an external utility
like fat32format ?
Maybe DryOS behaves like Windows, and will refuse to format > 32 GB, but happily use
them once formatted ...

Thanks for pointing that out - I'd forgotten that the 32GB is a Windows format limit.

It's worth a try - the camera looks like it will only format very large cards as exFat (which it won't boot from), so another tool will be needed as you say.

Hopefully the camera will still work with a FAT32 card > 32GB.

Thanks guys!  The Fat32 format did the trick.   Everything is normal with a 64GB Card.

Thanks

Good news ! I would say this means that users of the latest generation of cams (i.e. the FAT32 - booting ones)
should never need to deal with swapping partitions to access their pics or update CHDK !

cheers,

wim

PS  Note that fat32format is distributed with GPL'ed sourcecode   :D

Unlike exFAT, FAT32 has a hard 4GB file size limit. Not sure if any of the exFAT capable cams actually let you create video files that big though.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

4GB still seems to be the limit even on an exFat partition (at least on the IXUS 310, haven't tried the SX40).

There's some patent issues in Europe I believe that are the reason for the time limits on the video capture; not sure if there is anything related to size as well.

Phil, I was playing a little with 1.00d version. I could save raw files, I could take a video in a lower quality. About this last, the display of the bit rate seems to be wrong (the number keeps growing indefinitely). Also I could override ISO, aperture and time for exposure (this last one, only works in Manual mode). I hope this helps.
