I found an easy video tutorial for knuckleheads like myself who didn't think to right click on the original download site and then unzip it using stuffit expander(or other silly missteps). Attn. Mac users!

Sorry that i wrote in the wrong thread first time.

i found a several issues in my sx40 and in chdk either.
First of all as altendky wrote above focusing especially in telephoto mode is really bad. It misses about 9 times of 10 and manual focusing is too uncomfortable to operate.

So it could be fixed in CHDK. In my old a720 there was a function "focusing with zoom" but in sx40 its gone. Zoom lever in MF could be really useful.

The second issue is that theres no way to make RAW(DNG) visible via USB. There was "dng visible via usb" option and its gone either. Maybe theres any working combination of prefix and extention but i cant find it.
the "PS.FI2" file IS visible with photos and its annoying.

Theres a possibility to assign ALT to Print or Flash buttons, it would be great to add "zoom assist" for that, too.

Will anything of that be solved? Thanks)

A minor issue with SX40 HS version

First, thank you for all the hard work to those who provide this software. I've had it on my S3 IS for years and it is really great.

I just picked up an SX40HS for under $300 at Target as they are clearing them out - I suppose to make space for the SX50s. Of course, one of the first things I did was put CHDK on it.

For whatever reasons, I had to use ACID and SDMInstaller to get a bootable SD card. The SX40 didn't give me a firmware upgrade menu item. Whatever, I got around it.

I have one nit to pick with CHDK on the SX40 (firmware 1.00i, CHDK 1.1.0 2165). On the S3 (CHDK 1.1.0 2098) I use the zebra display. Zebra mode is set to solid, Restore Original Screen is on, Restore OSD is on, Draw Over Zebra is set to Histo. With these settings on the S3, the shutter and aperture information at the bottom of the display stay visible. On the SX40 with the same settings, the shutter and aperture are cleared, and other icons (flash indicator) flicker. I don't know whether to consider it a bug or just a difference in the cameras, but it is a bit annoying.

If there's some other place I should complain about this, and possibly file it as an official bug, please let me know.

Once again, thanks for all the hard work. I'll contribute a little by working on the Wiki a bit to update some documentation.

That's normal.  What you are seeing is the raw data from the camera sensor.   Canon "corrects" that when it creates a JPG.  You probably need to do some reading about CHDK RAW - here's some links to get you started.

Could you pretty please repost these lens profiles??

I use both Photoshop CS6 and Lightroom and would LOVE a SX40 lens profile to import into their RAW settings.

But the link you provided no longer works and just spams a popup stating link has expired.

if you want I can provide an email to send them instead if you wish.

I would greatly appreciate a SX40 Raw lens profile I can import into photoshop/lightroom camera raw profiles
