canon sx40 hs

I noticed there are alpha builds for firmware versions 1.00f and 1.00g.  My camera has firmware version 1.00d and neither build seems to work.  Is anyone developing a build for this firmware version?  I can dump the firmware and send it in.

It usually only takes a few days to port a new firmware version - but we need the firmware dump first.

If you can dump it that would be great.
It should be a 16MB dump file.

Compress it and upload the .zip file to a file sharing site then post the link here.

Hi Phil,

I've had a look at how to dump firmware and it seems a little daunting.  I'll have another go at it tomorrow but meanwhile, if there's any advice from the master of this stuff, I think it would help a lot.  Thanks again.

The simplest method I know of is (assuming you are using Windows):
1. Download the 'Common_Files.zip' file from http://stereo.jpn.org/eng/sdm/download.htm. Unpack this to a directory on your PC.
2. Find a 4GB or smaller SD card and format it in the camera. Put the card in the PC using a card reader not the camera USB cable.
3. Run the 'sdminste.exe' program from where you unpacked the above file.
4. Make sure 'sdminste.exe' has found the right drive for your SD card then click the 'Set Script Flag' button, then Exit 'sdminste.exe'.
5. Copy the attached two files to the card.
6. Put the SD card in the camera and start the camera using the rear playback button not the top on/off button.
7. After the camera has started press the Func/Set button, you should see some hard to read text in the top left corner of the LCD.
8. Wait about 15 seconds then shutdown the camera.
9. Put the card back in the PC and you should have a PRIMARY.BIN file on the SD card. Zip this up, put it on a file share and post the link here.

Hi Phil,

I also have firmware 1.00d on my SX40hs. I tried the version you posted and so far so good. It loaded, I could access the ALT mode and played a little with the OSD configuration. I'm still fighting to get a long exposure picture,  but this is my first time with CHDK and I still have to play a little more with it in order to understand if it is working ok or not. If you have something specific that you would like to test, let me know and I will try it. Thank you.
