MF in video with sx220 hs?

I've seen a couple of videos in youtube of people using manual focus while recording video with this camera.
I looked for scripts, and just found one (under the "older" section) and it didn't work for me.

How can I achieve this?

Thank you.

Using MF (manual focus) with video recording can be done using the same process as static photos. I don't know if you have tried using the MF with photos yet, so first review page 96 of your SX220 User Guide on how to use MF on your camera. You might also want to review the Movie section of the guide as well, pages 113-120.

What seems to confuse many people the first time they try to use MF is that they forget that they must be in a camera mode other than Auto (ie M, Av or Tv). To use the MF with movies you must have MF activated (via the MF button) before starting to record your movie. I've used MF with movies on my SX20 without any problems and I suspect others on the forum have also used it, so if you need more help please let us know. Good luck!

Hi SkyWalker9,
Thank you so much for the reply.

So you are saying that sx220 hs supports natively manual focusing WHILE recording videos?

I reviewed the pages you told me and also tried what you said.
Of course, I can manually change the focus before recording the video, but I can't seem to find a way to change it while I'm already recording.

For example, check this:
Canon SX220 HS CHDK beta firmware manual focus test

This guys says he is using chdk to achieve manual focus while recording video, this is exactly what I want. I want to know which script he is using.

Otherwise, if you are still saying this is possible without chdk, I beg you please explain it to me as if I were retarded :P (sorry, but seriously, I can't make it work).

Thank you very much again, and sorry for my amateurness, I just bought my camera yesterday and I'm new to this chdk stuff.

For changing of manual focus during video recording you need CHDK.

- select P mode or another mode with MF option
- set to manual focus
- go into CHDK alt mode
- set with the right button the step width for MF: 1,10,100,1000 (see displayed value)
- leave CHDK alt mode and start recording, go into CHDK alt mode
- use zoom leveler to adjust focus.
- to change zoom go out from CHDK alt mode and use zoom
- go back into alt menu and use manual focus.
- leave CHDK alt mode and stop recording

Thank you msl, that made the trick! :D

The focus is pretty hard to change with the zoom wheel tho, it sometimes gets stuck to some focus and can't change it, but it's okay for now, thanks!

Cheers.
