CHDK on Canon Powershot G11 with 8GB SDHC

Hi everybody and thank you all for the great forum you keep alive!
I read about the CHDK hack few time ago and I'm now trying to apply it.

My hardware is:

- Canon Powershot G11
- SanDisk Extreme III SDHC 8GB

I already discovered that I cannot use the manual firmware update and also that I have to split the SD in 2 partitions to make one bootable.
The problem is that It's not working.

I'm using SDM to format and split the SD following the steps in this video HowTo: Installing CHDK on a memory card above 4Gb but when I finish the camera finds only the 2mb partition giving back a "Memory full" error.
Could you please be so kind to give me the right steps?

Thanks a lot
Manlio!

Why do you think that you are unable to use "manual firmware update".   If your SD card has a ps.fi2 image in the root and you start the camera with the Playback button on the back rather than the On/Off switch then you should be able to do that without partitioning the card.

Simply cause in the CHDK package I downloaded for my firmware there's not a PS.FI2 file....where can I find it?

Thanks

Hi !

As you can read here manual loading is not supported for G11

Please check if you haven't forgotten to format the large 2nd partition - sdminste.exe does not automatically format after partitioning.

hope that helps,

wim

PS More tips:
- If you are running Win 7, try running SDMINSTE.EXE with administrator rights
- Try a different card reader, especially if you are using an internal reader now

Yes I formatted the 2nd partition too.
I'll try to run it as administrator as you suggested.

Thanks!

@whim : well that's a new one on me (again).  Searched through the forum for reasons why without any luck.  The other G series cameras all seem to  support the firmware update method (including the G10 & G12).  Strange that the G11 does not. I wonder if its a quirk of the camera or just not something the devs at the time got around to ?

@waterwingz

LOL, I only learned this by doing a quick Wikia -> For Developers and clicking "G11" just before posting this  ;)

It could be a bug/change in that generation of cameras (R39) - the SX20 has the same problem.
Wonder if the S90 is affected?

Phil.

According to ERR99, it isn't (also, the Autobuild distributes archives that include PS.FI2)

cheers,

Curious.
Comparing the S90 firmware code to the G11 and SX20 might give some clues (another thing to add to the list).
