I have a spankin' new S95, an 8GB card, and I want to run CHDK under manual loading. I have the latest releases autoloading successfully if I partition the card appropriately, but I don't want autoload: I want to load it manually just once in a while.

No matter what I try (one partition, 2 partitions, PS.FI2 file any location) I can't get the "Firm. update" menu item to appear. (It worked fine with an older 4GB card). According to this thread it seems it should work:

Any help is appreciated. I'm a CHDK newbie but a computer professional, so feel free to sling jargon if you're so inclined.

1) multiple partitions are only required if you want to autoboot. Ignore all that stuff if you just want to use "firm update" loading. If you only want manual loading, I'd suggest formatting your card in camera and starting with a single, clean partition, just to avoid confusion.
2) To see the "firm update" option you must power on the camera in playback mode using the playback button, not the power button.

Bingo! I knew all about 1) and 2), but I am on a Mac and had no idea the archive utility was messing with attributes that way. (For shame!)

I removed the bogus attribute and all is well. Thanks much!
