I'm thinking of buying an SX230 camera for myself in the next month. I see on the FAQ that it is listed as having the chdk available, which is a big deciding factor. So now I'm just looking for comments/ advice - do you have this camera? Do you like it? Does the chdk work well? (The main thing I want it for is the motion detect script for lighting and similar). Any other comments? Thanks!

I currently have an SD1100 so I'm basically looking for an upgrade. The 14x zoom and wider angle shots are the main things attracting me to the SX230. I like the fact that it has a 14x zoom but is still a relatively small camera for carrying around. My SD1100 has a frustratingly narrow angle, and I often have trouble getting as much as I want in the shot, so I like the idea of a wider angle camera.

Edit: I"m now considering the SX210, so added that to the title to see if anyone can tell me more about it.

i've recently looked at the Canon PowerShot SX220HS. She showed me more drawbacks (brightness decrease towards the edge, unwieldy).

That's very interesting. So, my understanding is that the SX220 and SX230 are identical except for GPS - is that correct? But I am less clear on the differences between the SX200, SX210, and SX230. In particular I notice that only a few firmware versions are listed for the chdk for the SX200, which makes me wary of getting it. But the 210 is looking nice all of a sudden - it has both the highest zoom and the highest megapixels out of these cameras. (It is also a bit more expensive, I guess because its been discontinued?). So now I am investigating more comparisons between those.

I wish there were an easy way to test these out. I know I can play with an SX230 in a place like Costco or Best Buy, and I have done, but the flourescent lighting in those places is so odd that it leaves me with very little sense of what the camera will be like in other situations.

I'm browsing reviews of the SX210 vs the SX220/230. Does anyone know what the difference really is? All I can tell is that they went down from 14 megapixels to 12 when making the SX230. Why did they do that? Canon doesn't even have the SX210 on their website anymore. I read a review that said the SX210 has less lag in taking pictures, which is pretty important to me. Anyone who has either of these cameras, what do you think?
