Cannot open RAW file made in IXUS 220HS

I installed CHDK in my IXUS220HS but cannot open the resulting RAW files in any of my converters, including UFraw.

I know the files have been recorded because they show up in the list in Windows Explorer.

Other people here seem to have been able to open RAW files made in the IXUS220HS so perhaps the problem is something to do with the exact FW?

The appropriate version for my camera is 1.01E. I tried the full Alpha version but could not load it onto the camera, so used the small Alpha .zip instead.

Can anyone suggest how to open these RAW files?

Try saving them as DNG files - these are much easier to open with standard software.

You might also want to do a little reading here :

This doesn't make sense - the executable file is the same in both versions.  You might want to try again ?

waterwingz,

Many thanks for your reply which was very helpful.  It had taken me hours to work out what was meant by the shortcut button and the video button. Canon does not give labels for these in its IXUS220HS manual – the shortcut button does not even exist.

I am now using the DNG format which you suggested. It opens perfectly in UFraw.

I have yet to try the large version of CHDK. It has been such a struggle to get to this stage I shall take a break before experimenting again.

Meanwhile it is marvellous to know that the IXUS220HS really can be made to produce RAW files, just as I was hoping.  Thanks again for your advice - I had almost given up.
