Did I goof on this one?

I got a great deal on a SanDisk 4GB SDHC card ($25) but it doesn't seem to work with my SD500.   :(

Do I need to reformat the card or repartition it?  FYI, I'm running Allbest #37.

Ok, why did I only read Allbest and not SDHC, always these wrong conclusions ... sorry for that.
My earlier post:

I think autoboot feature will not work, cause fat-16 (FAT) is only for 2GB, so your card should be FAT-32
which means that you'll have to use the swap partitions feature, if there is one and if you want to use autoboot.
If it is supported on SD500, you could also manually load via "update firmware" entry.

"swap partitions" or something like that should be good keywords for the board-search.

Hope that could help you, and now any clarities sould be destroyed!

If camera firmware do not support SDHC cards, CHDK cannot help....

It doesn't look like the SD500 can handle SDHC so I'm going to have to get a SD card instead.  If anyone wants to buy a barely used SanDisk 4GB SDHC card for $25 shipped USPS Priority...

Bottom line, YES.
There is no mention of SDHC support in the SD500 user manual.
http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/starbattery/SD500.pdf
Your camera cannot read the card.
Since the camera can't read it, it makes no difference how the card is formatted.

If you're willing to pay, Transcend (and possibly others) makes 4GB SD cards at various speeds (about twice the price, but may be worth to you instead of changing camera). These are not compatible with all devices, though.

These cards have been tested with other CANONs (older A6xx, S3, etc.) and are a 90% sure bet.

Note that these must be formatted to FAT16 for CHDK to boot, of course.

My friend uses Transcend SD 4Gb on SD500, it works. But on this camera FAT16 is slower than FAT32  :(

Is it possible to use the dual partition trick? Or port it to SD700?
