Partition change problem

I've used CHDK in the past without problem. Just got an SX40 and used SDMInstaller to install CHDK to a 16 GB card. CHDK loads on the camera and works as far as making setting changes (though no splash screen comes up) but I cannot seem to get the partition to change so that I can take more than a single photo... I dont recall having to do anything special in the past to get the camera to save photos to the second, larger partition. I've read the user guides and searched the forum but am coming up empty. I cannot get the camera to switch from the 15 mb CHDK partition to the 15+ GB partition.

The SX40 is a new camera and will boot CHDK on a FAT32 card - there's no need to use two partitions. Because of this, I think there's no dual-partition support in CHDK (hence your problem).

If you have a Mac, you can use the latest version of my MacBoot app (see http://www.zenoshrdlu.com/macboot/macboot.html - released today!) to make a single-partition FAT32 card bootable. All you then need to do is copy DISKBOOT.BIN to it.

If the card currently has two partitions, use the camera to reformat it (standard Canon menu) first.

If you are using Windows, I think CardTricks has been upgraded to do the same thing.

You can also set up the bootable card entirely in the camera.
The instructions posted here will also work for the SX40:

I'm using SX230HS camera with 8 GB SDHC card. I'm also experienced Linux user. I've created two partitions on my card: smaller with FAT16 filesystem and rest of capacity as FAT32. Card is locked. CHDK is autobooted, I can switch to ALT mode but photos are saved on first, smaller, FAT16 partition. CHDK directory was automagically created on this partition too although I manually copied CHDK directory from unzipped file downloaded from CHDK site to bigger FAT32 partition.

What should I do to make my camera "see" FAT32 partition and save pictures there?

Hi!

Your camera is one of the new ones that can boot from FAT32.
See this post/thread: http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=6645.0, and also read back a few posts here.
Unfortunately the FAQs are not up-to-date.
CHDK doesn't have multi-partition support for these new models.

Yes, you're right. I formatted my card as FAT32 (full capacity), copied CHDK files into it, manually booted, set autobooting feature, locked card and IT WORKS now! :)

Thank you very much for help.
