Help needed with S95 + CamRemote

I need som help with my setup.
I have a Canon S95 connected via USB to a CamRemote2.

I have programmed the CR2 to control pan and tilt servo's, which works just fine.
What I now need is a simple "take a picture" command to the camera.

I have made a 8GB SD card with one partition and the 100K CHDK version.
Some says it is necessary to have two partition and others don't

I have been adviced to install SDM, but how and where to do you install these files?
Together with the CHDK or separate? I have read the wiki, but I am still confuced - so many combinations.
The CHDK works just fine on the S95 with manually load, but there is no communication with the CR2.

I was hoping that someone had the same setup  :)

I am no stranger to computer and electronics, but this nut I just simply can't crack.
Please help me...

I don't know anything about camremote, so I'll skip that bit.
I have made a 8GB SD card with one partition and the 100K CHDK version.
The "100K" refers to the canon firmware your camera must have. It's not a CHDK version.

The S95 needs FAT16 partition autostart CHDK. So if you want to autostart (not loading manually each time with "firm update"), then you need two partitions.

CHDK and SDM are two different things. You install one or the other.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

Lars

can I suggest you use my ACID program (http://www.zenoshrdlu.com/acid/acid.html) to identify and download CHDK and SDM for your camera. Make sure you download the full SDM build because this has a program, SDMInst.exe, which will create the two partitions needed to 'autoboot' SDM or CHDK. SDMInst.exe is included in the common_files.zip file in the SDM package.

Once you have formatted a card and made it bootable, you can install CHDK or SDM just by copying the DISKBOOT.BIN file (downloaded by ACID) into the root directory of the card. That's the only file you have to copy.

Postscript - I don't think there's SDM for the 100k firmware version, so just download the common_files.zip file from http://stereo.jpn.org/eng/sdm/file/common_files.zip instead. Unzip and run sdminst.exe to do the formatting in two partitions. You can then copy the CHDK DISKBOOT.BIN that Acid has downloaded onto the card.

Thanks for the fast reply.
I have used the ACID program to identify the v. 100K Canon firmware  :)
It says that no SDM build is available and therefor I can not download it.
I have now copied all the generated CHDK files onto the 8GB SD card.
CHDK folder + diskboot.bin

I like the manually firmware update (for now). But where can I find the SDM package you mention (just in case).

Do I need to change anything in the CHDK menu for communication with the CR2.

I have received a SDM file (.bas) from VP-Systems (Linnar), but what is a .bas file, and where to put it?

Lars - see my modified for post for how to get the SDMInst.exe program.

You can get the 100k firmware version of SDM from http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17639456/S95_100K.zip

The .bas file from Linnar is an SDM script (that goes in the CHDK/SCRIPTS folder). The idea is you start the script running then leave the camera alone (not sure if you are lofting it with a kite or balloon).

CHDK and SDM are two different things. You install one or the other.
Incidentally,   you don't need to use SDM simply because you have a CR2.  There is a CHDK compatilble script on their web site :  camremote.bas.  Doesn't look like it would be too hard to convert the other two scripts (labelled CAMremote CHDK-SDM Shoot/Zoom/Focus/Av/Tv Script ) to work with CHDK either - just need to replace a couple of SDM "special" script functions with their generic equivalents.

Hurrraaa  :)
It works, and I am so pleased with your help.
It took 9 pictures while the servo's turned around and everything, and then the camera battery went flat  :o
BUT IT WORKED !!!

Here is what I did:
- I bought a 4GB SD card.
- Downloaded "common_files.zip"
- Downloaded "S95_100K.zip" and copied it to the same folder as "common_files".
- Formatted the card with "sdminste.exe" and followed the instructions in the pdf file.
- Copied the "cr1sdm.bas" file to the CHDK\SCRIPTS folder.
- Locked the SD card and put it into the camera.
- Started CamRemote and Camera.
- From the Camera menu I selected the script "cr1sdm.bas".
- And off it went taking pictures, oh what a joy  :D

Next step is building the camera RIG for kite flying.
