got a canon sx40 hs firmware 100f, loaded CHDK 100f beta seems to load ok, menus there nothing missing

but when I go into save raw I just got 16 mb files all the same size and they are not any readable format.

maybe it is some dump of any kind or I am doing something wrong.

any hint to make me go with raw

TIA

Suggest using DNG.

See  http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Raw

CHDK RAW is just a dump of the cameras sensor - its not a file format.  So each new camera needs to have support added to the various software packages by their developers before you will be able to read them.

Here's a little light readin :

hi again

I fully understand the difference between jpg and raw, but nomatter the settings in raw parameter I get exact same file size and I do have all the progs needed for opening any format.
I have used several CHDK before on DSLR with no probs.
Let's get to business.

save raw checked
dark frame subtraction off
exceptions all off
only first raw checked
raw in dir with jpg checked
raw file prefix ?
raw file extension ?
raw subtract prefis ?
raw subtract extension ?
raw develop not needed got software for that
bad pixel removal off
dng format not checked
dng file extension not checked
create badpixel.bin just for dng
raw buffer cached checked

? what are the settings here
and are the others ok?

TIA

It seems you don't, and you didn't actually read the responses to your question.

CHDK does not run on any DSLR. Anyway, this is totally irrelevant because DSLRs already save raw in an actual format, not a sensor dump like CHDK.

None of these settings except "DNG format" change the raw file. As explained in the links above, CHDK raw is just a dump of the sensor frame buffer. Some programs support this for some cameras, but when a new type of sensor comes out, those programs need to be updated.

If you want your raws in a standard format, use DNG.

nvm I did manage to get a DNG file at last, so all is good, I never shoot in anything else, when I bought the sx40 as an xtra to my Canon eos 550D I diden't realise that cr2/ raw was missing
thx for your help

CHDK is not available for Canon DSLR's.   Period.   There are threads related to DSLR's on this forum and utilities like Magic Lantern available.  But they are not CHDK.

No, you have some other hacks that run on 350d and 400d. Some people mistakenly call these CHDK, but this is wrong because these hacks have no significant code in common with CHDK and are written and maintained by different people. From a purely practical point of view, what capabilities these hacks have is totally irrelevant to CHDK.

See http://www.assembla.com/spaces/chdk/team ... I don't think I need to RTFM about CHDK, kthx ;)

All that aside, the DSLRs support raw natively, so DSLR raw functionality really doesn't tell you anything about CHDK raw functionality. Of course Canon saves their raws in a proper format...
