None of the ixus support manual focus: in the source code (camera.h) they all have
#undef CAM_HAS_MANUAL_FOCUS
which also causes this option to disappear in the menu
Yes, Ixus cams don't have this option, they don't have an MF button - but you although have full manual focus in CHDK...

Well, they do support the Subject distance override, which will appear in the menu & work wenn you define the "CAM_HAS_MANUAL_FOCUS" thing, but as i noticed here for the Ixus 750, SD override can cause the camera to hang under some circumstances.. Dont know about other ixus'es
Yes, SD override is available on most / all Ixus cams, also the manual focus feature, see
Special Short-cut Keys; this works perfectly on the SD400 (Ixus 50) and SD870 (Ixus 860).
Some time ago it was reported for one or two cams that setting the SD distance or use the manual focus feature crashes the cam when the zoom was not used before. Don't know whether the Ixus 850 has this problem...
@viktorzk:Try the following: start the cam, zoom out & in (with the zoom lever),
after that activate the manual focus (PRINT for <Alt> mode, UP for manual focus mode)
--> you'll see
SD: xxx and
FACTOR: xx on the display.
Then try to focus with the zoom lever...
To leave the CHDK MF mode press UP in <Alt> mode again...see also the available keys here:
Special Short-cut Keys.
If manual focus works this way, try the same with the SD override feature.
