speed up SX40 in low ligth

i've got sx40 now for two weeks
there is one annoying thing
if it's used in total darkness the frame rate on th display gets low and the camera is getting totally unresponsive.
cannot really use at parties :) )
got any ideea to workaround this problem?

maybe limiting framerate somehow to min. 30,24 or 15 would help a lot,
in the movie digest mode(records few seconds before) works nice, it's keeping at 30 fps probably, it's responsive, only the display is pretty dark but i prefer to be more responsive vs nice display
maybe there are more camera models which would need such finetuning

answers from devs appreciated
 :)

It's highly unlikely Canon would do it this way if there was some easy, software only way to do it better.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

thx for the response

i just asked higher framerate in low light.
i know that i'm asking for quite complicated thing, i saw the sources :)
in low light sometimes takes 2 seconds to refocus if i missed it, this is the most annoying...
sx20 and a650 manages it faster.

propbably canon made like this to be able frame your subject in the dark, but at social events speed is more important i think.

in movie digest mode the camera works nice even in low light, but i don't want to record movies :)

Use manual mode ::)
nope, not better, it does light metering before autofocus... probably thats why it's so slow
