I'll see if I can determine the pinout of the remote 2.5mm "audio" connector for you all.
Its probably not worth a lot of effort - the diagram is posted on at least two of the sites listed above.

I've got the newest version, the "G" firmware.
Try using the newer CHDK build link I posted.  That should allow your remote and printing script to function totally independently of having a printer connected.

Ok... Great news to report.  Using the newer build completely resolved the issue.  It's working perfectly.

I'm using half-press as my trigger.  It's connecting (and disconnecting) from the printer beautifully.

I can also confirm the pinout linked previously.  It's simple and accurate.  For any of those out there wanting to use the port on the G12; just get a stereo 2.5mm plug, and you're good to go.

Regarding srsa_4c's post:  I'm using detection for half-press (that originates from the remote).  I believe that the remote is detected identically to the physical shutter button the the camera.

However, if I can be of any service to the group with testing; I'm more than willing to volunteer.

Several other cameras including the G10 & G11 should work that way too.

More good news to save for later.  Thanks !

Thanks to you most of all.  I very much appreciate that you were willing to share your experience and offer assistance.

If I can offer any help to you, or CHDK in general; I'm here for you.

One bit of off-topic, but potentially useful information for the camera-hacking crowd:  I've build custom remote triggers for both Canon and Nikon before.  Canon always follows the same "three pin" format, even when using the different connector for DSLR's.  There's a company called Aputure in China that makes cheap remotes.  The remotes are standard, just the "pigtails" are different for each company.  The pigtails are a cheap way to get the connector that you need.  You can either cut them, or use the 2.5mm female which they include.  Canon and Nikon are trivial to wire.  Canon has a proprietary "3 pin" and Nikon has a proprietary "10 pin".  It's just convenient that the G10 G11 G12 use an industry standard connector.

I was building a hookup to trigger pad sensors for a haunted house.  I do a lot of photo work for them, and they wanted a "roller coaster" photo type setup.  It was interesting automation.

Suffice to say that there is a back story here that was a lot of work.  Its gratifying to see it pay off for someone.

Don't not if you noticed this recent thread - its amazing what you can get for $10 from China these days.
