You can't find any programs that open it because it's just a sensor dump. For the sx260, you should be able to use http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK_Tools#rawconvert.c to convert it into something you can use to see if the data is valid.

Hi,

I am new to this forum and new to CHDK, so please apologize any dumb question.

i have a SX240HS, and thanks to people here, we know that the SX260HS CHDK is working on it since the 2 camera are essentially the same (GPS apart).
My firmware is 100c. I have tried the sx260HS 100c CHDK firmware but I have encountered issues.
I have a 16 Gb SD card. if I put the files (CHDK directory + PSI.FI2 + DISKBOOT.BIN) into the FAT3 formatted card, I lock the SD card and I start the camera....nothing happens. If I unlock the SD card, start the camera using the PLAY button, the firmware update option is there but I have an updare error.
If i partition the SD card (as I have seen somewhere in the wiki) creating a small FAT16 bootable partition  (20 Mo) and a second 15 Gb FAT32 partition and I copy all the CHDK tree into the small FAT16 partition it works. (I lock the SD card, and start up the camera). The firmware is loaded, I can see and change all the wonderful new parameters (even play games !), but I can only write photos ONTO THE SMALL 20 Mb partition ! This renders the whole stuff useless. The second partition is not seen. I even followed the complete howto on the wiki and copied the CHDK directory onto the big partition, leaving the other files on the small one. Stll no luck.

SO, my questions are :
- Is it possible to install CHDK for sx240/260HS onto a 16/32 Gb SD card ?
- Does the camera can see 2 distinct partitions on the SD card ?

I surely miss a point there.

Thanks in advance

The SX240 & SX260 do not support dual partition cards.

You need to make sure your card is formatted FAT32 ( not FAT3 - typo? - and not exFAT).

Uses EOScard to make the card bootable.   Instructions here - used method 2  : http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Prepare_your_SD_card#For_cameras_released_after_2010_:

I got my 64GB card to format in FAT32 with this program:
http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm

After you get CHDK running with the firmware update method, use the play button to enter <alt> mode (brief press). Then press <menu> and go to the miscellaneous options near the bottom. There's one to make the card bootable. Then you can write protect the card and CHDK starts automatically.

Basically method 1 from the link I posted above.  However, wul31 reported not being able to get the firmware updated method to work with at FAT32 formatted card.   I believe firmare update should work with FAT32 or exFAT so there must be something else wrong there.

Hi,
Thanks to all of you for your answer.
I already learnt that the SX240/260hs do not support multi partition cards. Well,  if it can handle CHDK on a FAT32 formatted SD CARD it is even better.

I did not describe exactly what I have done, thinking that there was maybe something obvious that I missed.
So, to be sure and exclude any mistake here is exactly what I have done tonight :

ACID tells me that my firmware is 100c.

- format the SD card (16 Gb SDHC class 10)  low level on the camera
- put the SD CARD into my laptop.
- unzipped the zip archive "sx260hs-100c-1.2.0.zip" into a local directory. (downloaded from the link posted the 24th of august).
- copied EVERY files (changelog, DISKBOOT, PS.FI2, readme, vers.req, CHDK directory and buildconf) into the SD CARD.
- Used EOSCARD to render it bootable
- unmout the SD CARD
- lock the SD CARD
- Put the SD CARD into the camera
- Turn on the camera

The message "memory card locked" appears.
If I turn on the camera using the play button and I try to install the firmware...I got the firmware update error.

I will now create a 4 Gb FAT16 partition on  the 16 Gb SD Card and repeat the whole process, to check if it works.

Thanks again for your help.

PS: I bought the camera in France.... any chance that the 100c firmware from my sx240HS camera is different to that of the sx260HS 100c firmware used to build the CHDK port ?

Mat

This probably formatted the card as exFAT.   You need to reformat as FAT32 on your PC using something like the utility mentioned above.

What format did EOSCard detect on your card ?

I just did this and it worked, so give it a try.

1. Do another low-level format of the card with the camera (I checked and it is FAT32).
2. Transfer the files from this link to the card root directory:
download the full package for:
-> sx260_100b
-> sx260_100c
3. You should see the file "ver.req" not "vers.req" in this download. Only "ver.req" works with the sx260.
4. Leave the card UNlocked and insert it into the camera.
5. Press the PLAY button and let it start.
6. While holding the SET button down, press DISP to see your version number. Pressing DISP again shows another page (contains the last error number in my case)
7. Now press MENU and scroll to FIRMWARE UPDATE
8. CHDK starts. Press the PLAY button briefly to enter ALT mode.
9. Press MENU and scroll (up) to Miscellaneous Stuff / SD Card / Make Bootable
10 Now you can remove the card, lock it, and re-insert. CHDK will load whenever the camera turns on with the card locked.
11. The PLAY button is used for ALT. Hold the PLAY button a little longer for the original PLAY button.
12. Have a beer.

Nope,

SD Card was formated FAT32 EACH time. I even tried a FAT16 2 Gb partition...still no luck.
I formated the card under linux (my native environment) and I even booted Windows to format it FAT32 (just in case...). EOSCard reported FAT32 filesystem (of course).
The only time I was able to load CHDK was when i followed this howto :
http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK_and_SD_cards_greater_than_4GB_%288GB,_16GB,_32GB,_64GB%29

But as I mentioned earlier, since the SX240HS is not able to load the second partition, I only have the 10 Mb (or 20 in my case) available in the first partition.

I will try again following the previous howto but with a greater partition (I have tried 2Gb already, will try 512 Mb).

I still don't understand what is going wrong.

UPDATE : I just saw your answer while I was typing this... will give a try. I probably downloaded the 23 august files on one computer (under linux), then when I tried on windows I have downloaded the files from the 24th august.
So, if there is a typo in the ver.req file... that might explain the issue.

I will let you know.

Thank you

I've been trying to use set_focus(f) on both the sx260 and the G1X without any luck. Both cameras ignore focus override values. Hopefully, this can be fixed.

In the CHDK menu, set the Override Subj. Distance option to 500 or so, exit ALT mode, and take a few pictures. The camera ignores the override. Now set manual focus (Left button). The camera crashes.

This also happens on the G1X (crashes less often), so hopefully philmoz will take a look too? I assume this will affect focus bracketing, so it's a major bug. The G1X comments are here:
