That's way out of date. Don't read it!

CHDK now supports large FAT32 single partitions. I have it working with a 64G card. There is NO partition reading code in the current CHDK. It's not needed, and CHDK won't work with partitioned cards.

Just format large cards with FAT32 using this Windows program. The hardest part is clicking on the PICTURE to start the download.

Just to be clear, this is not something CHDK changed. Canon firmwares released in 2011 and later support booting from FAT32 cards. The multi-partition stuff still applies to older cameras.

Thanks for the info. I read that the partition code was deleted from CHDK. Is it still present for older cameras then?

Also, if you format a card larger than 32GB with the camera, it comes out exFAT, and won't work with CHDK boot.  You gotta use a formatter like this one: http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm

Another focus override problem.

In manual focus mode, if you press <PLAY> to enter ALT mode, UP focuses at infinity, and DOWN at the hyperfocal distance. This works on the G1X. But on the SX260 it doesn't. In ALT mode, you can hear the focus motor when you press UP. When you switch out of ALT to take a picture, the camera crashes when you press half_shoot.

Yes. Multi-partition code wasn't deleted, it requires additional code in each CHDK port and so it's not usually implemented on the cameras that can boot from FAT32. It's also not implemented on cameras that are too old to support SDHC.

Try these directions. Start with the first CHDK download link (version b), and if it turns out you have version c, start over and use the second CHDK download link (version c).

Hi folks,
I come back with my problem.
I started over again and still CHDK won't boot or install on my sx240HS.

ACID says that my firmware is 100c

- I downloaded CHDK from that post (100c version)

- I formatted my 16 Gb SDHC card using this :

(Really, I don't understanted why I should use this since I can format the SD CARD in FAT32 either under windows or under linux without any problem, but OK I gave it a try.
btw, any specific  options to be used like allocation size ?)

- Then I rendered the card bootable using EOScard

- Then I copied the files into the SD CARD.

- I locked the SD CARD, loaded it into the camera and turned it on

- Message says 'SDCARD locked' ....fail !

Thanks to Lapser, I corrected the file vers.req into ver.req, and I was able to see  additional info when starting the camera using the PLAY button and pushed the SET + DISP buttons.

I don't know whether it is usefull to diagnose what is wrong but here it is :

Canon PowerShot SX240 HS
P-ID:3245 PAL D
Firmware Ver GM1.00C (1.0.0.0)
Adj Ver.005.011
Serial n°. XXXXXXXXXXXXX

Second screen :
Build: Mar 19 2012 14:48:31
E18 ZoomLensSpeedError
2012.08.01 20:28:05

By the way, I cannot proceed to the firmware update at this point. When I select the option in the menu, I still have the Firmware update error.

Any clues ?

Could it be a problem with the SD Card ? I will copy a Linux install to see whether I can boot on it. If I am able to boot up a linux system on it, It will demonstrate that it's bootable.

I won't give up !
