The time on one is 13:14 and the other is 13:24, right?

Sounds about right - those are the time stamps on the zip files so should be what shows up in Build Info menu too.  I don't have the camera I can't check that myself.

I just tried it in manual mode and now, the pre-flash does not fire and the camera dies right after the focus light fires.

Does it do the same thing with either file I posted ?

And does it die before you pull out the USB cable ?  Remember,  normal behaviour for sync mode is for the screen to go blank when you plug in the cable - its only when you pull out the cable that it should take a picture (or crash with the code the way it is right now).

Flash is probably Off rather than On.

I assume there is no Auto flash setting in Manual mode.

The flash was on, each time, but it did not flash, however, it now, dies before pulling out the cord, immediately after it focuses.

Ignore the flash thing for now - i believe its a red herring.

Did you try both files I posted ?   Do they both do the same thing ?

Does it make a difference if you are in manual mode or whatever you were originally using (Auto?)  ?

I was originally using P, but, now I've tried using all modes with both versions of the files and the same thing happens.  If the flash is on, the preflash will fire after the focus flash and the camera will die before I remove the cord.
